FFXIV is kinda designed for you to unsub in content droughts. It's not like WoW that is made to always keep you entertained by itself, at least ever since ShB started that's been the case. They don't make a lot of content at endgame in this game, and most of the playerbase has just accepted it at this point.

I wish there was more, but it's a dead horse at this point. FFXIV just has nothing to do after a point.
I think that is an excuse the devs like to use in place of "we are lazy and we are just going to follow this simple patch cycle repeatedly."

You are getting access to the entire game and new content, 2 weeks slower. If that's not good enough for you, unsub.

You don’t have to agree with peoples takes but please for the love of god stop hiding behind the “just unsub, don’t play the game.” A lot of people critique the game because they want to see it improved. With how much money the game makes, we’re allowed to share our opinions.
And here we have the Devs saying they are tired of crunch and for whatever reason they are slowing down updates slightly to give some level of rest to their team. This is a huge problem in this industry and players can be insatiable, consume content immediately and never be satisfied. Not much you can do with that staying in a budget.

The Devs themselves said it's okay to unsub when your done with the content. A person here saying the same thing is in alignment with the Devs for what they decided is best for their employees and their game.

Until the housing situation is fixed, unsubbing like the devs have suggested will not cut it.

You could always do what I did and let the house go. Otherwise it's up to you whether keeping the house is worth the sub fees.

I did that, but locking some content (since apartments don't give you access to outside decorating and gardening) behind a required sub is still slimy and worth calling out

That's exactly what I'm saying, because whenever someone brings up housing requiring a sub not to be locked out off, someone always come in to say "BUT APARTMENTS!1!!" so I wanted to get that out of the way first, that apartments and FC rooms don't equate a house

Honey, you saying this as if FFXIV is a free to play game. News flash, content beyond Heavensward is required a monthly sub to access. Also two factors.

    A. Housing in this game is a commitment due to available purchasable plots being at a premium, that along with the exuberant amounts of money one would need to purchase one and decorate it however they so desire. Its not a thing where any average joe would be able to get sadly. The limited system is flawed for sure and its debatable whether we should have instanced housing instead (My opinion would be to have the option of both. Where we keep the perma housing wards while others can instead get an instance to decorate/garden/stable, this is my hope Island Sanctuaries become).

    B. The 45 day inactive grace period is implemented to prevent unfair users who purchase the home but dont do anything with their plot as a means to completely prevent other players from purchasing land. Basically its there to combat some bit of scarcity. In that sense, 45 days is more than enough for anybody who was serious on their home to log in and tend to their house. And for a lot of people, housing is a huge part of their endgame so again its not something they would take lightly.

I'm complaining about the devs having the audacity to say "just unsub if you have nothing to do" while simultaneously punishing house owners who have nothing to do and would like to unsub. That's what's slimy. That's what requires the sub even when players would like not to be subbed.

Personally I used to be really into housing and spent a ton of both real and in game money and time to take care of my houses, I'm perfectly aware of the commitment, but I really did not like the idea of all I put into housing turning into dust if I want a longer than 45 days break from the game. I don't care why things are that way, it's as grating to hear the devs encourage people to unsub during droughts as it was to be told to go do Ultimate if we want "engaging healer gameplay". It's not addressing the elephant in the room.
