Thematically it's very different, cards go back in the deck to be drawn again later and consumables disappear. Mechanically they could be implemented literally any way you could imagine and then some, at the foundation cards are randomly drawn from a deck while the act of drawing characters or picking out a talisman to use is not even close so where are the similarities beyond a card vs a piece of paper?

At the simple end the act of painting could represent a cast time for spells with fancy animations while more complex sigils/drawings/whatever could simply be abilities with a longer recast time. If you want to get more crazy with it there could be a combo system like NIN combining strokes to create different characters, or characters to create phrases (just an easy example). There could be a set of abilities that share a short recast with charges to represent a limited number of talismans that can be created. The entire mechanic of sigils could be focused around enhancing and augmenting specific abilities. Who says they have to work like cards just because they kinda sorta look like cards?

It's infuriating isn't it? Encouraging new jobs to be more unique is one thing, putting down every idea you don't agree with because it's slightly similar to something else while also offering no input of value is very rude. Unless they're just trying to piss people off in which case they should simply be ignored.
I really don't want to be mean, but it's just not conductive to the thread in any way and it is frustrating to see every discussion being shot down by one person who's just standing there going "I don't like that." "I don't think that's unique enough." "I wouldn't play that." We're at the point where there's really not much we can do in order to realistically predict future jobs, but I also think it's fun to think about and theorycraft about what we could see, and what loose threads we could establish either from the FF series or from threads left unexplored in XIV like with the Onmyoji example.
