No one logged in today because of Lost Ark

Yet even with it being a sub based mmo i continue to see downgrades and a lack of improvements with specific aspects of 14. My point however was moreso about companies wanting to make as much money as possible, sub based mmo’s are a good example of this.

FFXIV is a far better game now than it was in ARR. The game constantly brings in new players and is better than ever. However, the game does need an engine upgrade to deal with certain limitations.

Yoshi P literally gave us 21 days free and suspended further sales. Such a move is pretty much unprescedented in gaming history. Yet, somehow, you're here complaining about money-grabbing in a game that has consistently delivered quality content for 8 years straight. To even compare this game to F2P MMOs with highly predatory in-game cash shops and no other content than mindless grind is missing the mark pretty hard. Every single good MMO in 2022 is sub-based or B2P. End of story.

Most of us who have been around a while see prettier and prettier MMOs making the same mistakes, I can even list the main ones.

- The general gaming community is not interested in punishing games, they are and will always be niche.

- The general gaming community is not interested in lots of grinding.

- Current MMO devs (the ones that aren't MBAs who never played a video game) tend to be made up of first and second generation MMO players, trying to recreate EverQuest or WoW, or some PvP focused MMO that modern MMO players don't want.

- Along with the previous item, the MMO fanbase has a group of loud but ultimate not numerically significant first and second gen MMO players who claim to want old school MMOs or PvP MMOs, they do not speak for much of anyone.

So when devs do those above things, they unsurprisingly crash and burn.

Have you even looked into Lost Ark, or do you just have a vendetta for seemingly any new mmo?


Lost Ark has a lot of casual content and horizontal progression. You don't need to focus on doing the top end raids to have fun. I'm loving lost ark and my focus is actually getting the collectables, some combat content that is not savage raid difficulty, and some occasional pvp. Progging savage in ff already stresses me out so I don't want to bother high end raiding, I'm just vibing. Casual people grind when they're having their casual fun like getting glamours or mounts they like in ff for example. It's free after all, doesn't hurt to try and delete if you don't like it. You don't have to "pay to win" if you're not interested in "winning" aka being super strong for super hard raids. It doesn't have a sub so you don't need to feel bad for dropping it whenever. It doesn't have to be a life commitment or your forever game, as long as you're having fun it's just another game lol


FF is better in a looot of ways, but that's because we actually pay a sub so we don't need the predatory monetization or whatever. But you are paying to win access to that fun. The monthly sub. Free is free.

Do you guys even ever pause to consider whether you should be talking about a game despite having no knowledge of it? LA is a theme park MMO. There are a lot of issues with LA but the rabid fervent barking is just sad and reeks of insecurity.

Cash shop is already predatory.

Has immense grind.

A generic, predictable story.

Literally has loot boxes.

It's a Korean mmo and has not only all the bad things that affect a typical Korean mmo but it also has phone gacha elements and literally has loot boxes.

I wish people stopped repeating that Yoshida quote because based on how the game is designed, it absolutely does not want you to unsub.

True. But the game is also so designed, that you do not burnout and start really hate the game. This happened to me in WoW retail. I burned out in Wrath of the Lichking and stopped playing it for 8 years. Then i came back for WoW classic. If they would not release WoW classic i would propably never touch WoW again. This never happened to me in FF14. I stopped playing it and after i was done with WoW classic i came back for Endwalker. This is IMHO a much better approach then the other game devs do.

I'm not sure what you expect people to do, play every single game out there?

That being said, some games don't know how to advertise themselves. LA seems to very much advertise itself as an end-game focused grindy progression MMO. It seemed aimed at the hardcore player. Maybe it isn't that, but then it does a very bad job of getting that across, and I'm not sure what people expect from outsiders.

But the bigger issue is the predatory tactics, that makes me not even want to install it because I don't want to support that shit.
