See, I like yoshi and want to give him the benefit of the doubt because I honestly thing that he slapped that limitation on Hrothgar because of the simple fact that H/V were rushed to begin with. but to say that its working as intended? No. I absolutely refuse to accept that notion because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that this was going to blow up in his face the moment people figured it out

Agreed. Honestly, I'd even forgive the fantasia thing if we had like, 15 unique hairstyles to work with....but we don't, we have a whooping 2 [assuming you don't want to change face, and even then, we only have 8]. It's pretty clear this wasn't 'working as intended' as much as simply them biting off more than they could chew and make do with what they got, given the time and resources available.

Imma try to keep this short.

What part of Hrothgar and Viera doesn't seem intentional?

Viera? They wanted to just make FF14 Fran. It's what people asked for, after all. They coulda just took Miqote hair and made longer ears outta them but nope.

Hrothgar, why can they not have hairstyles from other faces?
Welp, each Hrothgar head was designed to have a different size-n-shaped forehead and ears. From a design standpoint, this could be pinned on the fact that the devs made them full animal looking, and it's hard for humans to tell the difference between non-human faces, so they made them each look very different. They didn't HAVE to design them this way though, and because their heads are so different the hairline for each mane would fk up on any head that it wasn't made for ... so the devs would have to make alterations to each Hrothgar hair to not make it look like cheapo clippy garbo work on the 3 other heads. They don't do that for any race.

Why can Hrothgar not at least change between the TWO hairs for their 1 face? Cause part of their hairstyle is in their face features tab for w/e reason. This isn't the case for ANY other race, they just have bits of hair in their face features tab for w/e reason. Perhaps they really couldn't find a way for more stuff to be in the Fur Pattern (AKA Hair for any other race) tab, but again, that's a design choice to have barely seen fur patterns be a part of this race and suck up so much CC.

Why would they do this if they know how it would be received?
Why would devs making this game (where most people play pretty/ cute characters) make people who play the big better-looking-Roe-bro males race with beast faces pay extra? If I were to put on my profit-driven-company hat, I'd say ... YP really liked the idea of a big beast dude option, and much like he said ... he had no idea how popular it would be. These races cost time and money not only to make but also to support, as they make everything more expensive to do.


Simply put, it gives them more of a return on investment if w/e small amount of Hrothgar players pay them extra money. There's way more FV than MH, but I do wonder how much money SE has made from the 24k Hrothgar players who may have wanted to change up their hair sometimes over the past 2 years. Depending on how many arvg Hrothgar actually pay money to change their hair, they could have made just as much or more $10 Potion sells as they did on Viera Females over the past 2 years.

This is why I'm very interested in seeing 6.1's Hrothgar changes ... and it's also why I'm 100% sure Hrothgar are still gonna have to pay $$$ to get this solution, just like people with stubby Middie face.

I don't, I think it's clear that they wanted to give people what they were asking for with Viera (aka, be true to what "Viera" are and make them look like Fran instead of like long earred tall Miqote) and wanted to ensure they got a good profit from Hrothgar by making that smaller amount of players pay. Even if you don't think it was money driven, they know how to make fully functional races, none of this was accidental even if poorly thought out.

I don’t think it was accidental, but it was sloppy and the poor communication since releasing them has honestly left the worst taste in my mouth. When they were first released, these issues weren’t as unacceptable, but with every patch that has some players waiting with baited breath that they might get SOMETHING, I can’t believe anyone wouldn’t think they’re justified in feeling disappointed and hurt. At least let the cat men change face without spending money, I don’t care if it “doesn’t make sense” in the lore. Sometimes you should negotiate; if they didn’t want to give them more customization, then give a little on your “lore” end to let them have /something/.

My main concern with female Hrothgar is still that they're going to make them "sexy". I mean, look at the female Au Ra concept art versus the tiny waifus we got...

My theory is they're trying to make them attractive, but the problem is hroths are too furry and they want to humanize them, but then they remember us Catgirls already exist, so they don't know what to do. Can't make them too humanlike, because female Miqo'te already exist. Try making them look as furry as the males, and it makes them extremely difficult to make attractive. They should just do what others have suggested and make them look like female Pantera and call it a day (just with tails and human feet like the male Hroths ofc).

That is not what I said. I meant the playerbase's need for the missing gender. Of course SE makes a lot of money from fantasias, which I have acknowledged, and even stated that not updating (or "fixing") the races makes them even more with players who switch back and forth.

People just naturally will want to play the unplayable gender of a gender-locked race in any game. Miqo'te were gonna be gender-locked too as I recall but they changed their minds. I think it's just pointless to gender-lock a race in an MMO because people will ALWAYS complain that they can't be the "other gender" as this one race. Might as well just let them have it.

Yeah, no matter how much Yoshida has explained how doing so would impact the rest of the game. I do not care about a person's want when it comes at the expense of everything else. Female viera/male hrothgar were already added, it was time for them to make good on their promises for updates, and fix the ridiculous issues with hrothgar and fantasia. Instead much of the playerbase whined and complained about male viera (not really female hrothgar), instead of unifying over the issues present currently, and now male viera players are more and more switching off and joining us here in complaints about the limitations.
