That's where I'm at with tanking. I had one super toxic experience with a "good" player and now you couldn't catch me tanking. I'll still level the jobs to 90, but I'm not doing in dungeons with strangers. I'm not perfect as a person and I can jump into that pool anytime I want, but still I'm hesitant to ever do it again. It only took one bad run to make me feel like that. To me anyway tanking takes confidence on my part and some says I can and some days I can't. And this forcing meta of going as fast as possible isn't a good environment for me as a player to better myself. It's like the exact opposite and I get overwhelmed and leave. To each their own, but I always hate people who are like "just adapt to the meta forehead" without understanding that people aren't all the same.

Respectfully, neither do you know me.
I don't claim to have been through Depression or difficult period of life, but...

I am aware the difficulty of getting out of comfort zone is different from individual to individual.
I am aware anxiety and depression sticks to you like gum.

Yet anxiety and depression cannot be cured with the only use of medication, the will to get out of those is necessary.
It's not about "Just doing it", it's about willing to make an effort and face the discomfort to grow accustomed to the situation and gradually be less anxious about it.
Like the man I quoted said, it's about slowly building an immunity to it.

Anyway, what was the initial topic, by the way?

It's ironic to see all the people dismissive and honestly rather cold to the existence of any form of anxiety that they think is ridiculous, despite it being an actual thing that some can experience in such staggering levels that it causes them to not be able to function. Ironically, one of the things I've seen counselors doing for those with social anxiety is encourage people to start with online interactions. Unfortunately what should work and the reality of it is... people online are 1000000x worse than they are in person and many of you are simply proving the OPs point. That said, there is some good advice for those with any form of anxiety relating to game play. Build yourself up to it. You don't have to just jump into the deep end, start with Squadrons and Trusts and build your confidence and don't give up. If anything else I have found one motivator to be particularly effective... outlive your enemies and prove them wrong, bury them beneath their false beliefs.

Might be an idea to create a cross world linkshell, and invite some people who don't mind going slow / making mistakes / helping people out. Way back when we had such a linkshell on Phoenix, and there were always plenty people around to do stuff with. I think most of those people quit playing now though, so it's not been active for years.

Pretty sure there's plenty people around who would like to join such a linkshell.

I was in a similar community in another mmo, one specifically made for people who were tired/afraid of rampant elitism in super casual content.
Sadly that community got... well, elitist.

Personally I have a really nice and relaxed FC to queue premades with, but such a linkshell would probably be just the thing for a lot of people.

Yeah, that can happen as well, usually once people start getting more comfortable with their jobs and want to start doing higher end stuff

I'm also in a nice FC, but due to my work hours, I'm pretty much always behind on things, and / or online at times they aren't.

Not really. When you are not comfortable pulling multiple packs and people pull for you and then you have to run around trying to get aggro so people don't die it's a very uneasy feeling and is not fun at all. I was planning on leveling every class but I'll think I will skip healers and tanks now, people just take the fun out of it for me. I hit 90 on one and don't think I want the anxiety for doing the others. I'll just do beast tribe quest for the next year getting them leveled. People can't ruin that. Too bad you can't do roulettes with the trust system for all that bonus exp.

Run around? All you have to do is run to the pack of mobs and use your AoE combo. Yay you will forever have the aggro if you keep hitting them.

Last time it happened in stormblood when I had to turn off my tankstance and try to keep up with DPS refusing to push their aggro reset buttons.

Since ShB losing aggro is a challenge, you have to just stand AFK to lose aggro to Heals/DPS with tankstance on.

How many of the PUGs have you been in which one or multiple people have been abusive, were actually successful? Or did you give up entirely and leave because people wouldn't stop being so hateful and negative?
I actually reported like the only 3 ppl who were negative and harrassed me, idk why people keep just sitting and eating insults when report amd blacklist buttons are right here.

Listen, out dev team is amazing and working themselves hard, but comparing their work to tanking/healing in this game and meeting some nasty shitheads isn't quite a right thing. Their job is much harder and most people throwing complaints at them 90% of time doesn't even know what limitations are there behind some shortages and problems.
