Have to give shout to design too.

I tried RDM in Stormblood and found it quite boring.
I had to raid caster in ShB, and chose SMN because it was still more fun, althou some changes made RDM better.

Currently, it is much more engaging gameplay than SMN and possibly one of best designs in game, because you are presented with lot of choices.
The key ability that caused this, is IMO change to Manafication and changes in gains of B/W mana and melee combo cost.

PS: unpopular opinion:
The Magick Barrier was not needed and is way too OP.
I will of course use it to my advantage, but there was no reason for solid caster DPS - which RDM is now - to have extra raid mitigation.
Unless SE is planning to give all jobs something useful and distinguishing from their role partners. In which case SMN is still in queue I guess.
