    The casting doesn't service the 'more interesting melee.' It enables the melee which in turn enables your REAL finishers.

Jolt -> Verthunder -> Acceleration -> Verthunder -> Embolden + Manafication + the rest of a normal opener starting at that point. You don't start your Swiftcast running as quickly, and you're behind a bit on initial mana, but it still aligns the raid buffs with the 3rd GCD where most people aim to use them, and gets your Acceleration rolling.
