How to tank an MMO 101: Make it PVP focused.
There's not a chance in hell they're ever going to do this. This is not a PvP focused game. They're not going to let someone gank someone just trying to do their MSQ story.
No. This isn't that type of mmo.
It isnt a porn game either and people treat it like a dating sim or futa simulator lmfao. No to a pvp centered expansion on my end as well but the amount of sheer butthurt from people who collapse at the first thought of competition are the reason all our pvp game modes are simplistic and boring.
No. Forced PVP would make a lot of people quit.
A pvp enhanced expansion could be cool, but we’d need a solid way to keep the pve and pvp players irreversibly siloed and provide enough nonpvp content to not make pve players feel they’re missing out. The siloing would be especially important in this game, since many players are so accustomed to not having anything to do with pvp, and certain players won’t accept any chance of it.
That’s one heck of a tall order, especially since pvp naturally encourages skirting rules to gain an advantage. The worst situation is to have anyone able to join or leave pvp at will; players gravitate to safety over time, and safety is the opposite of pvp. I’m fine with players deciding if they want to pve or pvp, but I don’t think that’s a decision that should be lightly made.
I don’t know the best way to push a player into either side based on their temperament, but that’s the quality that’s most important than the player’s stated preference via a flag. Otherwise it’s going to be an absolute trashpile of reports.
I don't think a PvP expansion should be a thing. But seeing them allocate more budget and time into reworking PvP would be a nice idea.
So your take is that the makers of the largest/most successful major MMORPG of all time...lacks the skill(whether through management or employees) to do this successfully.
And the largest/most well funded company in the universe also lacks the skill to accomplish this.
But FFXIV...a company that has shown it doesn't care one bit about pvp....they somehow have this skill to accomplish something no other game has done correctly? Cool story.
