well this would be a great way to destroy the playerbase they've managed to gather, if the devs have half a brain this will never happen.

Yes... being good in 1 thing doesnt automaticly make you good in the other thing.
Lets for example take age of empires. As these games exist a long time and have varying results in how good they are:
- aoe1 was good in its story aspect, and decent in pve because it was new, pvp did ok but wasnt used a lot
- aoe2 was excelent in its story aspect, and in its pve. Even for lan and online it did excelent. But for pvp, there were a lot of issues that took several updates to resolve.
- aoe3 went starcraft style in making it very pvp focussed, and is the worst of the franchise by a huge margin. sure, pve worked, but that was because it had some sort of progression system. the HD version showed that without that system, pve is simply just boring.
- aoe4 is currently mainly pvp focussed, but with a clear idea that pve has to remain interesting aswel, they know compstomping is popular. They are fully aware that pure pvp is a bad idea.
Now look at starcraft. outside of pvp that game is dead. And even in pvp the game is very limited in who plays it. No new players are flooding in. Yet starcraft was deemed superior, yet now beated by microsoft

I came here to say that too. PvP was introduced in ARR, not Heavensward. I think Hesvensward introduced Seal Rock but Secure and 4v4 was ARR. Although the 4v4 of ARR and the maps it used no longer exists. Man was SCH and SMN overtuned for PvP back then, though I miss how tanks felt then vs. now.
On the subject of a PvP being center stage for 7.0, why in the hell would you want to take a PvE game, that didn't launch or even re-launch with PvP available, and built on 9 years on PvE philosophy, balance and scenario to suddenly take sych a massive tonal shift? Because it's different? That kind of design would require a drastically different mindset and team to approach the scenarios and the balance. Most importantly, this shift would alienate the community it attracted as XIV never once advertised itself as a PvP game and barely even advertises the PvP it currently has.
Yeah it would not work, but the playerbase is also at fault here. Rival wings was a pretty neat pvp mode, dead. Nobody plays it because its not in the roulette, people literally only able to do something they are funneled in to like sheep. We are talking about a playerbase with a sheep mentality so thick ingrained that they log in with a 4k queue to wait 12 hours for chi to spawn when they have an entire 2 years of expansion to kill it twice and collect the mount. If there is no pointless golden bauble reward attached to a game mode they lose interest and then hop on the forums to declare they think pvp is trash.I came here to say that too. The whole point lost to them and yet another fun game mode that is not a scripted encounter dead.
I don't think that example holds up. You're comparing what a subset of RP players treat the games as vs what the developer treats it as.It isnt a porn game either and people treat it like a dating sim or futa simulator lmfao. No to a pvp centered expansion on my end as well but the amount of sheer butthurt from people who collapse at the first thought of competition are the reason all our pvp game modes are simplistic and boring.
If nothing about the game changes. (No game systems being touched) Now all of a sudden players treat this game as a big racing sim wouldn't automatically make this game a racing game.

I dont think it would suit the game much to inpliment pvp into the Story.
BUT, i do would love the idea, if PvP elements would find their way out of Wolves Den/Instances and have things like Arenas (like 1vs1, 2vs2 or sonething like a free4all for up to 25 or so people) in the large Cities/Housing Areas or optional areas which have open PvP always active.
Frontline PvP in its current state isnt even fun with the current Job design in PvP and the fact, that it is, simply too many People being arround.
At least let Frontline Maps have more random elements like invisible landmines, random monsters show up or supply boxes being dropped.
Adding PvP content with intermediate patches, ie X.05, X.1, etc is the best method. XIV is first and foremost a story driven PvE game whose primary audience is, and has always been, people who want PvE content. Adding instanced PvP options, such as Frontlines, Feast, etc will certainly be enticing to people who enjoy PvP, but it should *never, ever, ever, never, in no shape or form* be added to the overworld. I played on PvP servers in other games and while exciting for some, getting ganked and camped routinely is not fun and breeds toxicity. Frustration and anger at "Red is Dead" players would be monumental when someone's stuck in a cutscene and gets killed. Even if they were invulnerable during a cutscene, getting whacked the second you come out of it is just as bad.
Other games have open world PvP and that's where it should stay. Full stop.

Is your wish to kill this game, OP?

Think the New World region could be a good opportunity to add some open PVP zones, much of the region is fairly unexplored and could see groups fighting to claim settlements, lol. Guess Meracydia could also work, dragons not getting along with eachother and we having to pick sides...

You want to push away a lot of the playerbase? This is how you push away a lot of the playerbase. I wouldn't play a pvp focused expansion at all.
