Nothing wrong with NFT's. It's staggering how little people understand crypto and NFT's. It's like people who were against the internet back in the day.

Then enlighten us. I submit that gaming NFTs are a scam because they have zero value. None at all. Prove me wrong. What is one way in which NFTs could possibly improve this game? Anything at all that could not be done without NFTs. What is one conceivable way that my item is better or more useful or more secure or more easily traded if there is a digital certificate attached to it? Name me one benefit to having say, a blockchain registry of item ownership or housing plot ownership. Literally anything.
Sometimes people who understand the inner workings of something are unable to see the vast forest of stupidity (the abject wastefulness and pointlessness of the whole endeavor) for the trees.
Where do I even start? Most people know NFT's as digital goods but in actuality they can do more than that. They can also be use to store information digitally. This could include things like identity documentation, digital art, proof of ownership documents etc. Think of an NFT as a digital container. saying it has no value makes zero sense. It's value is determined by what you decide to keep in the container. Your identity documents are valuable to you but I would assign no value to them myself. What most people think NFTs are is just digital art and that's because that is what is big right now. So how does this fit into gaming? Then enlighten us. Let's take FFXIV. I know people that drop 100's of dollars on items in the mog store. They do not own these items. If you get your account removed or FFXIV shuts down then the items are gone. If we took everything that was in the MOG store right now and made it an NFT what would change? Would the EVIL NFT outfits ruin the game? no. In fact, it would be a benefit. You would own that item. You could decide to sell me an outfit that you purchased that you no longer need. Yes, SE would get a cut but so what? I got an item that I wanted and you sold an item that you did not. There is also the additional benefit that SE could decide to make that outfit give you a benefit in another game. Maybe you could import that NFT outfit and wear a similar one in a different sony game or break it down for another item. If SE decides to it could also allow integration with other companies so your NFT outfit had integrations there. Even if you were to be banned by SE they could not take the NFT outfit from you as you own it on the blockchain.
Incorrect. And this is the problem. People do not understand blockchain. The items are not stored on a server central to SE. The items exist on the blockchain. SE gives up control of them once they are created on chain.

Either you or I are missing the really obvious. With the server gone and the game shut down, I don't care how you own your item. Some meaningless bit on a blockchain or the data is burn into a physical disk sent to your door with a ribbon, without the actual gaming environment to apply it it's meaningless.
The value would depend on the market. There are always people that want to collect items. Look at people that collect figurines for shows that are over and done with. Also, if there are integrations with other games or developers then use of the items still persists.Either you or I are missing the really obvious. That's not how NFTs work. A link to the item and history of ownership exists on the blockchain, not the item itself.
You would have proof that you own the digital item linked at:

If the web host went down, your NFT is gone. If the web host changes the link, your NFT changes.
This is only true for some NFT's. There are some NFT's that exist on the web server with authentication on the blockchain as you say. This is done because of the space on the blockchain that is taken up. However, this is not the case for all NFT's and varies on the chain the NFT was created on.That's not how NFTs work. Just going to add my voice to the chorus here, ive literally just made a forum account for this.
If NFTs get added to FF14, im cancelling my sub and never coming back. This virtual cancer needs to be stopped before it starts.
I've already abandoned the idea of playing Forwsorn thanks to this. Im sad about that, coz it looks fun as hell, but if this is the companies course then so be it. So congratulations Matsuda-san, your annoucement has already lost you at least one formerly guaranteed customer.
This is also going to make me more sceptical of FF16 too. While yoshida is still at the helm of it, i don't trust the company not to try and force this into there now too, and if they do, i'm out of Square games forever.
