I think rather than pandering to and dividing players into specific groups, the design goal of this game is more to encourage players to participate in a broad range of activities for fulfillment. If you get into this game purely for one activity, no matter what that activity may be, it probably won't be an optimal experience.

SE wants everyone to dabble in raids, just as they want everyone to try a bit of crafting, potd, pvp, etc. This approach makes a lot more sense when you look at the JP playerbase, who are significantly more likely than NA players to do a bit of raiding on the side even if it isn't their main focus.

But I was kind of disappointed when I found out that the 24-man raids are basically only random-matching theme park rides where you zerg down bosses totally uncoordinated for the most part. Because I was under the impression that those are along the lines of WoW.

So the “raid” content in FF is 8-player trials in a circle arena, where you menu-teleport to. And it’s basically only dozens and dozens of Heigans (it’s a movement heavy raid boss from WoW). For the most part all bosses are about movement and movement only while hammering down your dps rotation, there are no gimmick fights (mostly due to everything just being a tiny and empty circle or square arena), no real mechanics, no adds to manage, no interrupts needed, no buff/debuff mechanics, no special assignments for players and even in the few cases where there’s an attempt at creating those it’s a super watered down version from what your used to as WoW player.

For the most part “raids” here seem to be: stand here run there, circle aoe, donut aoe, cross aoe, oh this goes off in this direction, run over there, look at the symbol/color/whatever it tells you where to run. I mean to be fair, you have to keep this game playable on PlayStations because Japan is the domestic market and most Japanese players are likely on console but, it’d be cool if there would be real raids and bosses at some point.
says all of this - having not done any raiding in FF, and probably paid for AOTC in wow.

    cool.

Each game has their format, it's the way it is, you can always play other games

A bit ironic that you'd say someone knows nothing of the subject matter just because they didn't find the NieR raids difficult, only to throw out something like this...

You need only do one expansion, of your choice, before reaching the Shadowlands. You are free to switch between them at any time, but a single expansion's storyline is more than enough to get you there. This has been the case since before Shadowlands was released.

Since we're comparing it to WoW and you oh so conveniently forgot to mention, WoW raids are no different. Once you have a boss on farm you will always stand in a designated spot, you will always handle a mechanic the same exact way and it will never change. Don't omit stuff to try and fit your narrative, you're better than that....I hope.

What's funny, is that the developers have done what the majority of the player base has asked for. 2.0 raids had more trash. Clearing trash, and doing simple puzzles is boring to the majority of players after completing it once.

There are plenty of other MMOs out there if you're looking for a different type of raiding experience.

I do miss the scale and coordination of Everquest raids but those are also time consuming and difficult enough to just get enough people together for them. There is something like BA that can satisfy that kind of raiding but it is set in a special zone that has special rules and conditions so it isn't exactly the same as taking the character and job you know into a raid scene. I am interested to see what kind of content they come up with this time around for the independent levelling zone and relic grind, even though it will probably be another FATE run.

I really don't see the allure of have trash between (savage) bosses. Ultimately its just a time sink.

Immersion. I want them for normal raids.
