Haven't worked since Aug '10 so have tons of time for XIV. Started a hobby making candles so periodically I do craft shows and take care of orders.
well i am self employed now. journeyman carpenter by trade, but got sick of working 90+ hours a week(i was a shutdown worker one week was 7 days a week 16 hour shifts normally and the next week you would get off on sunday)
i much prefer the working for myself doing custom woodwork. i guess you can say i work when i want and take off when i want.

If you can get any IT Experience, albeit even if it is home networking.
A+ certitications. And ANY Cisco experience (Working towards a CCNA is +++++ when I look at hiring someone)
Every company (almost) needs an IT person on staff just as an insurance policy. Honestly, its mostly fixing printers, doing preventive maintenence on all employee consoles, basic PC/MAC troubleshooting, etc. Alot of Port Switching/Patching, etc.

Man, don't I know this feeling. I don't farm anymore, but during harvest times, it was 18hrs/day 7days/wk. Talk about running on cigarettes and Red Bull !:Owell i am self employed now. journeyman carpenter by trade, but got sick of working 90+ hours a week(i was a shutdown worker one week was 7 days a week 16 hour shifts normally and the next week you would get off on sunday)

My signature is edible. Go ahead, try some.
the dark blue can(16oz/473ml). i have one in front of me now lol
i loved doing it because i got to do alot of traveling because i was what they call a "shutdown chaser". basically when a industrial plant needs maintenance or a new project added it will shut down for up to 30 days(usually 2 weeks). during that 30 days you run overlapping 16 hour shifts. we show up the last 4 hours of the other shift and they work the last 4 hours of ours to keep the projects running smoothly 24 hours a day. if the shutdown was scheduled for 14 days and we didn't complete it on time our company actually got fined for each day we were late(some jobs were massive fines)
the only problem was since it was industrial work it could be anywhere from cape canaveral florida to pheonix arizona so i stayed in hotels 10+ months a year. i got married to a lifelong friend and we had 2 kids so i needed to be closer to home to be with them instead of being gone year round. that's why i went into custom woodwork because i can do almost anything i want when it comes to woodwork. i figure as long as i am home and can pay my bills i have no need to go back to working for someone else.
edit: since we have been married for so long(13 years) it also helped we saved my income and sent her to school. she has her national license for a pharmacy tech so her income is a nice buffer so i don't need to get back on the road again.
