Lot of good suggestions here, but I feel like if you're looking for DoTs/other status ailments/status buffs I'd have to be Green Mage.

Geomancer sounds like a neat idea too, but Geos and their spells are tied into whatever whether is currently happening, and while you could technically cut out that caveat for an MMO I feel it really wouldn't feel like a Geomancer.

Green Mage would be a great addition to the "supportive" job types in FF14, seeing as both other supporting jobs are both physical ranged. Shell and Protect might be difficult to implement and keep balanced, but Tranq and Leap would be awesome to see-- instead of just a tiny damage increase like the Bard and Dancer offers, give us buffs that offer increased direct hit rate (Tranq) and increased movement/spell casting delay/auto attack delay (Leap). While DoTs might not "technically" fit Green Mage, they'd probably be easier to implement and balance compared to Blind, Sleep, and Oil. Plus, they use maces, and we don't have a combat job that uses maces yet.

A personal favorite I'd love to see though would be Spellblade from Tactics A2. Red Mages are awesome, but they focus more primarily on ranged spellcasting. I'd love to see a magical "caster" that engages primarily in melee combat. Finding a way to make Blood Price work (Spellblade uses health instead of mana when casting spells) would be fucking phenomenal, but I also recognize its impossible in an MMO setting.

No one said Chemist. While normally a healer. I think it would lend itself to a dps job very well. It also has a design set of gear from FFV.

Had a thought extending from the idea suggested perhaps not exactly a dark job like reaper, dark knight, black mage (which they can do, just a thought for diversity sake), taking some of that occult, blood, lovecraft, ravens, diablo 3 bone, curse, and soul magics--- there is a recent magic introduced in EW, that for sake of spoilers I'll not name, that I think could fit fairly interestingly for the theme of DoT, affliction, enfeeble, emotions.. type concepts. Hint for those who got to where I'm talking about but am unsure- would be when the Matanga is talking about their theories.

Of course you'd have to position the job slightly askew from the words used in EW such that when you learn about it you're like "OH, yeah my wickedly different magic that no one gets.. that's actually something akin to what I'm using". Anyway I apologize for remaining vague but given the recency of the expansion and difficulty for some players to play it... I felt it might be something new enough. If you get it hopefully you think it'd be interesting, if you don't ... hope your queues are light and your 2002 errors are few!

May think of it like Summoner magic is very much in-line with the creation magic concepts of ShB. So this job might take some of the soul magic concepts of ShB married with some of the EW new concepts, and I think that could create a fairly unique theme'd job that could be built around the concepts of DoTs, and other usually related gameplay mechanics.

I'm not sure how previous FF game's versions of the Chemist function, but I did have a thought of one using a specialized crossbow that shoots bolts of pure aether to buff allies, cure status ailments and cause various DoT and status effect afflictions to enemies.

Sort of like a cross between a ranger and a primitive Sage.

I suggest doing the physical ranged role quest then.

Necromancer is the obvious choice especially if we get a void themed expansion like I am hoping someday.

I’m even more convinced Geomancer is coming as the next caster after even more hints and a job change of a certain character have taken place.

Void Mage - Basically a re-skinned Necromaner since Necromancy is a big no-no in the lore while Void Mages were actually a thing.

Green Mage - A combination of green magic (buffs and debuffs) and poisons. Green Mage in the traditional sense wouldn't work well in an mmo but dots are a natural progression of debuffs and I think the ideas mesh well.

Time Mage - Has more potential than a simple dot class, if it were to be implemented I'd like to see a totally unique job.

Geomancer - Not sure what it has to do with damage over time, I'd see it being more similar to current SMN with more focus on positioning and ground effects. Maybe some dots but not all dots.

Scholar could perfectly be switched to a high DoT DPS healer. High DPS being it's own trademark.
The Archetype of the Tactician - Strategist fits perfectly with the method of Damage over Time. Scholar should have 2 single target DoTs and 2 Area of Effect DoT AND buff-enfeeblement.
Not to mention their summon, which should be already something alike Titania should not only heal-link, but to actually attack and leave damage over time puddles near the enemies.

Yeah, the class is right there in game already.

    Geomancer

Base class shared with white mage because their share the basic dps toolkit.

It use rot, poison and nature tied spell to apply dot and various debuff.
