What would be a good DoT Caster Job to Replace old SMN?

Since we haven't received a new caster class in 2 expansions, I wonder if the FFXIV team will introduce a new DoT Caster Job to replace old SMN for those who actually liked it in the next one.

What are everyone's thoughts and ideas?

For myself, I'm thinking we could get a Necromancer job that focuses on poison DoTs, status ailements, can possibly even temporarily control one or two corpses of dead trash mob enemies for extra damage and used as temporary shields to protect themselves or allies, and have the ability to revive fallen allies, though in a temporarily zombified state that gives them increased overall damage, but weaker defenses. I can see this working for either a new Caster Job or Healer Job.

So, again. What are everyone's thoughts and ideas?

Time Mage would be a interesting choice for our DoT caster. Would have Time related spells which could be DoTs primarily and provide support like RDM does but instead of cures things like haste/slow/rewind(regen)

I read somewhere that the devs have some fear of time based magic, possibly due to the whole 60/90/120 system they have created and pigeonholed themselves into.

Necro most def. Dunno if it fits FF lore.

How about a MIMIC based class? I wouldnt mind an Enchanter type with CHARM skills. Also, Tamer/Beast Master type of class. Something with strong pets thats not Primal based, but I know pets seem to be frowned upon here for w/e reason.

As an oldschool MMO player, this.
A proper pet class and good debuffs/crowd control/dots is exactly what I miss most these days.
I don't want to play games like WOW for good pet gameplay (DAoC is sadly much too old now).

Something original would be nice. Otherwise, Necromancer. I hope the DoTs would be integral and choiceful in their application, though, rather than just mere maintenance checks.

Ooh, I like this idea! Gaia pretty much was a sort of time Mage herself with her caster delayed spells. Could definitely see the devs implementing a job based on this and the way Gaia fights with her magic.

How would a tamer/beast master job function with DoTs? Not against the idea, but I'm just curious how it would function. I like the idea of enchanter with charm based skills. But Mimic...I'm struggling to imagine how this one, too would function with DoT skills, sorry. Could you please go into more detail on this one, too.

bad wording on my part. I didnt mean those as Dot based classes just other type of classes in general. I didnt have an idea on Dot based other than liking Necromancer, mainly because I played one al long time ago.

MIMIC based as in, like the old FF MIMIC character(s?), your entire kit is copying everyone elses moves. Doubt it could actually work but is FF based at least.

I'd still like to see a proper Geomancer. WHM kind of takes on some of that earth and wind magic, but a DPS that was nature based would be fun.

That would be really great. And maybe it could also specialize in sealing and barrier magic, too, because of the lore we were shown in the Astrologian SB questline.

I can definitely see Geomancer as a really capable support caster type that does summoning spells as well via scrolls it carries around containing powerful auspices or spirit/monsters like the Tengu from that one dungeon.

Earth element: For slowing the enemy down, both auto damage and movement speed wise. Summoing your Koja (clay head monsters with long earlobes wandering around Yanxia) allows you to all but pretty much temporarily freeze your enemies in place with enchanted elements of earth, while also being able to damage your enemies with poison coated needles shot from your Koja's mouth for extra DoT damage.

Wind Element: For damage over time. Made stronger when summoning your Tengu or weasel auspices to to increase the damage on your wind DoT already placed on enemies, the timer reset and capable of bombarding said enemies with a few consecutive powerful wind attacks that add a damage up stack to your wind DoT damage already applied.

Water Element: For supportive spells, such as curing status ailments and providing decent heals Power of both supportive spells increased when you summon your Gensui Apa (The water women spirit things that wander around Yanxia) spirit or tortoise auspices that transforms your healing spells into regan spells that heal and your "esuna" spell into a barrier spell that cures and outright prevents one status ailment from affecting you.
