Then they need to promote the Mog Station maintenance team into Login and World server maintenance team because they are clearly very efficient seeing how they managed to get 4 patches in 4 days, whereas Login Server and Worlds got 0.
You are talking about apples and oranges.
Mog Station maintenance is most likely things like, "Allow users to register EW expansion" or "Push new items live to the store." Those are simple, easy things. The amount of times something gets updated has nothing to do with how technically competent a team is.
Mogstation seems to be stuck in maitenance. I keep checking every 12 hours or so but some of the features are still in maitenance mode?
I mean, maybe they're not taking login server down for maintenance because there is nothing they can do for it at the moment. I doubt it has a 'hand out random error 2002 codes' button that someone accidentally left flipped on.
Obviously turning it off and on again should fix all the problems, right?
The login maintenance that affects the login server and not the players logged in.Forgive me for not having faith in a quick solution from a company that I believed would address the issues players presented to them during the original beta of FF14 but didn't until ARR.
As for the WoW comparison it is but one of numerous MMOs, and the most well known, where this was applicable. Other MMOs where they had periods of the login servers being temporarily down due to maintenance or other issues while those in game were able to continue playing would be ones such as the Star Wars: The Old Republic, Everquest, City of Heroes/Villains, The Elder Scrolls Online, Secret World, Wildstar...should I go on?
The quick solutions they did already have been implemented in game.
Upgrading and increasing login caps recently to account for the surge of logins.
Closing Character Creation in Congested worlds - They have quite literally said "Were the number of characters to increase any further, it could result in login queues taking up to several hours, which is why we needed to take this approach. "
Asking players who AFK to log out.
Implementing a system that forcibly kicks players regardless if the game detects no inputs after a prolonged period of time.
Telling people what to realistically expect as Endwalker drew closer.
Giving Free 7 days of login (which is not required since they already realistically told you what to expect and you agreed to those terms in the EULA, but is a positive feedback to a Company)
All those things were pretty much in encapsulates what they can do that doesn't involve in 'buying more hardware/server space' - which is the only major fix to the problem. The rest is just temporary measures, which have a limited effect.

This thread didn't age well. They're now doing maintenance on the login servers.
Maybe the people who work on the website and work on the game are different people? I'm a web developer, I wouldn't know the first thing about fixing lobby and login server issues for a video game. But I have plenty of experience fixing web issues and putting web servers into maintenance to apply said fixes.
Honestly, these fixes have come out pretty quickly, though in fairness they're not guarantee to work, but sounds like they may alleviate the issues.
It is telling that in order to help alleviate the 2002 that they've resorted to using backup development servers, it shows how much they really are trying to squeeze the resources they have available to them, especially as all solutions have been about how much further they can spread and optimise those resources rather than any screw ups on their part.
They've already done what they can to upgrade the specifications on existing servers to get more out of them (ahead of Endwalker). But all of the problems go back to one point: there's more traffic than the servers can handle and they need more servers or less traffic. And they can't get more servers and getting rid of traffic would cause more anger from the playerbase who wants to play.
All they're doing is sticking on a bandaid that alleviates the problem and not fixes it. Although it'll mean the data centres can now handle 21,000 connections in the queue instead of 17,000, it'll mean fewer people hit 2002, but people will still hit it if we hit 21,000 connections in the queue.
