Chat bubbles are an absolute necessity for me to enjoy socializing in this game, and not having them cripples my ability to enjoy interacting with other people. (So I just avoid people unless I have to interact with them. Which is a problem, because I like mmos BECAUSE of all the people I get to meet) FFXIV is an incredibly lonely game for me.

I have vision problems, especially when it comes to repeating, small details all grouped in one place in a very organized way. Which means I cannot read the chatbox at a glance. So, I have to focus all of my attention on it if I want to communicate with others, which turns the game into an IRC chatroom, removing the point of the entirety of the gameworld for me. Completely destroying my immersion. (And that's not even considering the outright COMBATIVE chatscroll this game has)

It would be SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE for me if the chat could be physically read near its point of context (aka, chat bubbles) so that I can interact with the CHARACTERS I'm speaking with instead of some name in the bottom corner of my screen.

There is an ILLICIT PROGRAM -DO NOT INSTALL- that some naughty fellows use. I've held strong against the allure of proper social accessibility because you have to put your login info into, and I'm absolutely not comfortable with that. But as the days go on, I'll admit, it gets harder and harder to resist. But those that I know that DO use it (you, the reader, shouldn't however, because login info, etc) have had absolutely zero problems with resource usage, or visibility in populated places (how many people in limsa are using /say anyway?). I've seen screenshots and videos of it being used, and none of the speech bubbles look out of place either.

I say, if SE can implement the sound visualizer for those who are hearing impaired, why can't they add a common mmo social feature for those of us who were born with crappy eyes?
Like seriously, this is at the top of my list for "things I want SE to implement that would have a positive impact on my gameplay experience"

It'd definitely be a nightmare for crowded places like Limsa or during hunts, but literally anywhere else, it wouldn't really be as bad as people make it out to be, specially when option is the key word in the whole argument.
I was excited to RP in this game, but just as you describe, not having the conversation happen in the actual gamespace just tore me out of it. Pair that with the insane chatscroll that happens during events, and I just gave up.
If I wanted to irc rp, I would be doing that.

As for voip, I know yoshiP said he didn't want it in the game, which I kind of get, but it would be nice for console players to not have to use their phone to talk to their fcmates.
Probably would be a nightmare to moderate though.
