I think there is a broader issue with stats and gear in FFXIV. At level cap, there isn't much gear to choose from, especially because in most cases higher iLvl means better gear and that's about it. For casual players (who don't raid savage), the issue doesn't even exist because you only have tome gear, then augmented tome gear. Crafted and 24man raid gear is rarely better because of the 10 iLvl difference with augmented tome (or savage). But then, if you play casually you don't even experience stats implications most of the time.
A casual tank reaching 525 / 530 iLvl currently won't "need" the bonus Tenacity offers if said tank will only be playing normal mode Eden, Nier raids, dungeons and the occasional treasure map.

Currently, these stats are there for min maxers, and for a transition period between progress on high end content and fully geared. The odd stat being Spell / Skill Speed which some jobs rely on more heavily than others. But once again : purely for optimizing DPS output.
Most players don't see any impact about these stats.

But I'm of the opinion that rather than removing these, it would be more interesting to have all of them matter in some way. Having more gear with more options would help too. Sadly, FFXIV is in a comfort zone that just works fine and there's little chance that they will ever change these things.

Please don't take away my comfort zone.

I'm of the opinion that no stat could ever be interesting if tied to gear, just annoying. Anything interesting would be in the form of actions and their effect on the rotation.

    For example:

Critical hit on Inner Release? Nice.
Critical hit on chest piece? Ugh, guess I'll get that gear and glamour it.
