Trade mentor requirements are stupidly easy, a lot of times you can just simply ignore the hammer mentor and be on your way. So late in the game that they don't really 'trade mentor' anyone.
Combat does require actually running content so there is that, and the full crown means they likely play this game a lot.

I wish pvp mentor had an actual requirement.

The biggest problem with the mentor system is they put a reward on it. You are going to always have people only after the reward instead of helping people. It's nice that they want to reward people who help others out, but the current system does nothing to assure that actually happens. Until they can design a system that assures only those who really do want to make the game experience better for others are the people who can become mentors, then it's going to be flawed.

Even I'd be okay with something like finish a minimum of gold one season. That'd at-least show they know something. Or require the hand of mercy 5k kills if it's a frontline player.

Clearing a current Extreme isn't really hard to do at all.
You can be terrible and get carried by friends, or buy it, same with Savage or Ultimate.

Damn, this is why Extreme trial should be 50/50 mentors and sprout.
What happens if the mentor(s) don't even know what's going on? It's been my case when I got Niddhog EX and the ARR Leviathan/Ramuh.

Some EX trials can be brain dead but others like Ramuh requires actual teamwork and when the 7 sprout have no idea how to recognize an aoe, it often results in... Frustration.
One hour of frustration and salt.

I think mentor shouldn't have ANY requirements other than "I would like to be a mentor" and current completion of all MSQ content. However I also think mentor shouldn't have "rewards" attached to it. It should be purely voluntary and out of desire to help, not desire for stuff.

In my experience, the mentor system is mostly fine and the mentor bashing is an overblown meme pushed by salty people. I do mentor roulettes every day. I help sprouts clear extremes in mentor roulette every day. It's not unheard of for my very first mentor roulette of the day to be an extreme, which we generally clear in one or a few pulls. Over the course of about 1100 roulettes so far, I can count on one hand the number of individual mentors who have caused problems in roulettes, even extremes. Generally, the mentors I encounter are ready to take on anything, and they do.

If I had to guess, I suspect the mentors people see that are causing problems are the ones who do not actually use the roulette. They probably do not even have the roulette unlocked because they have not completed all the duties in the game.

The reward is fine. There's nothing wrong with offering a reward. I can tell you I would not run the roulette anywhere near as often as I do if there was not a reward attached. The bottom line is that just because you "want to help and that's the only reason you are here" doesn't mean you are actually good at helping or able to ensure the clear. Some of the people who are most eager to help everyone are, in fact, the ones who have no idea what they're talking about and generally give terrible advice. Therefore, if you think removing the rewards will help the system, then I say think again.

Here's the regular mentor complaint thread right on time. Hmm wonder what angle they will come up with next week? I mean the OP has a join date of this month and 1 post history can we be trolled any harder?

I see battle mentors more like a "I've played this game long enough time to get enough commendations!"-badge. So it's both yes and no. Yes because it's something that any player will inevitably get. No because despite that the time requirement is still quite lengthy compared to... the living meme that is Trade Mentor.
