Are Combat Mentor Requirements Too Easy?

This kind of mentor system is brought up a lot. Delete the crown, remove rewards and just have people volunteer for it.

Well, it's already in the game. When you've done your daily roulettes and gotten your xp/tomes, queue again for no reward on a level 80 job. I have a feeling that not many of the complainers are actually doing that. Definitely not 2000 times.

I do that quite often! I don't even have mentor roulette unlocked as I'm missing a crapton of guildhests and extreme trials
so there's at least one "complainer" here that does just that :P (though I also complain about a hella lot more)

It's not just about playing the game for a long time though. I've played the game for years and I have maybe 700 comms. The reason being, you don't get comms from Party Finder, Statics, Squadrons, Trusts, running with FC, friends, or content like DR. Some players avoid Duty Finder like the plague, but still have considerable experience with the game.

That shows what a mentor actually is, someone who helps with random players on regular duty finder contents.

That's why requirements like Savage clears is irrelevant because that's not the context of where a mentor is needed.

And remember, even a silent mentor who just runs the duty with new adventurers without active mentoring can still help with exp boost at the appropriate levels. That's why people should not shy away from being mentors just because of some reputation/meme/whatever.

An interesting idea I had would be to make it so that the mentor crown can only be worn while actually utilizing mentor roulette (or chatting in novice network). This would, effectively, ensure that the people you see with crowns on will only be those who have the roulette unlocked and are actively using it. You can get rid of trade mentor entirely honestly I'm not sure what purpose it even serves.

Get rid of rewards, get rid of the crown. Make it so that only people who want to help can do so for nothing other than the feeling goodness of helping.
Is what it should be but I guess they feel that would leave nobody because were all and people who don’t do anything for nothing so they have to incentivise it with rewards and flashy crowns. Nobody to blame but ourselves for the state of the mentor

I don't think SE could create a system that does really well in vetting for good mentors. Being experienced with the game doesn't automatically mean you are also a patient person and a good teacher. There isn't a way to get software to measure those qualities. Whatever system they create will result in mentors who really shouldn't be in that role.

However that does not mean adjustments cannot be made to make the current system better. The attainment of crafting mentor really needs to be readjusted. The crown isn't an adequate symbol for a person who is supposed to be helpful. Crowns typically symbolise royal authority, and that can attract the wrong kind of person to a role that isn't about that at all. Also some people are mentors solely because they want the mount so I think the rewards need to be changed as well.

See a lot of ppl complaining about crafting mentors, while combat mentors is a joke all the same.
1500 commendation means nothing, spamming POTD / IA runs / Bozja zadnor to have a lvl 80 DPS / TANK / HEALER doesn't mean anything either.
None of the requirements for either of those are hard, and you probably spend more time doing all ur crafter / gathering jobs 80 to level up 3 different jobs.
And by experience the ones saying the most bs in NN are mostly combat mentors, not crafter ones.

I like the savage / Ultimate idea because at least you do know the dude can actually play somewhat right, while spamming dungeons / trials or even extremes means nothing about players skill level since those doesn't require any skill to pass.
One of the most frustrastring thing to see as a mentor is ppl, while obviously trying to help, says wrong things because they obviously dont have the knowledge, but they still must answer everything.

Wanting to help is great, doing so by saying wrong things is even worse than saying nothing and a lot do not get that.

on your server, maybe, but from my experience on levi and excal, it's the crafting mentors that say the darndest things in NN, shout and dungeons and usually reacted very negatively to any kind of disagreement, sometimes even getting on their alt accounts (also crafting mentors) to kick the people they don't agree with
also, as others have said before, you can get crafting mentor in like a week or so without grinding, which you obviously can't do as a combat one

Play healer, bam 1500 commendation in a month or 2.
Damn that's really hard to do and you truly know more about the game with this.
No matter how fast you can get either of those, both are equally worthless and doesn't mean anything in their current states.

only if you either play a scantily clad female character, a meme roe or a lala with a funny name, otherwise it'll take longer
