Pre 1.0, he and some other dragons fought the Garleans when they tried to invade Eorzea in the Battle of Silver Tear Lake, which ended with him succeeding in driving them off. However, his body was slung around that one vessel (Agrius), and when the Ceruleum tanks of that one exploded, he got caught in the blast as well and went down, but while his body is more or less dead, you have seen he isn't that much dead yet. But the battle isn't much referenced in ARR except very early on from Gaius, so it isn't much of a spoiler.
