I don't really like the idea of SE policing FC chat like that, except in cases of serious harassment, bullying, obscenity, etc. For the most part I think FC officers should be able to police their own chat channels as they see fit.

My idea: Require all Free Company and Linkshell leaders to select a chat policy from a drop down menu: Family Friendly, Off-Colour, or NSFW. The policy will be listed on any FC/LS recruitment listings, and be shown to any player invited to or attempting to join a FC/LS. The extent to which SE will police FC/LS chat will depend on the chat policy selected by the FC/LS leader.

Family Friendly: All rules apply that would apply to any public chat channel. Harassment, bullying, and offensive material is prohibited. SE will enforce the chat rules just as they would on a public channel.
Off-Colour: Swearing and modestly dirty jokes are allowed. Harassment and bullying is still prohibited. Parental controls can be used to block a minor player from joining or creating an Off-Colour FC/LS.
NSFW: Highly dirty jokes, vulgarity, and "spicy" chat are allowed. "Spicy" chat is only prohibited if it is abhorrent, i.e. involving animals, underage people, the dead, non-consenting, etc. Harassment and bullying is still prohibited. Players can only join or create an NSFW FC/LS if they are 18+ years old, as registered during account creation.

If you join or create a FC/LS with an Off-Colour or NSFW chat policy you will have to click though a pop-up warning that by joining you consent to being exposed to potentially offensive chat, and that SE will not intervene in policing chat that stays within the selected chat policy.

IMO the only chats that SE should be policing are Say, Yell, Shout and Tell because they are all public and non opt-in.

You don't like something that's being said in Party/Alliance/FC/LS/CWLS/NN then just leave. Easy.

That is not how it works, lol. You are still using their service by their rules. It's their responsibility what happens over their servers.

I mean how about people stop being toxic and just interact with each other in a civilized way? You don't have to be a racist, sexist or whatever to have fun and if you in fact need to express yourself in such ways to have fun i can only say, good riddance when such fellas get banned to oblivion.

So yeah, how about..."If you don't like the rules, change your personality towards something that isn't based on toxicity." or just leave. Easy.

I disagree about NN being in the list of not policed. NN is supposed to be a safe, welcoming and helpful environment for those new to the game. It often is not. Being forced to leave it because of offensive chat really puts the new player in a very bad position. Mentors imo should if anything be held to a higher standard than the rest of us.

SE shouldn't be policing chat. Their job is to design a game and facilitate community through design. Policing interactions between players isn't game design. It's them being the speech police.

Wrong, it's their house and thus their rules. You can't just go into a art gallery and insult people and just drink alcohol there and start a rave. It's their house, their rules. Their decision to decide what speech they want in their house, same as it is your right to kick people you don't like out of your house or just don't let them in in the first place.

Dunno where this mentality comes from that people just can burst into others property and act like douchebags without any consequences. Just cause it is a virtual space doesn't mean it's a lawless Eldorado ready for you to trash.

You're preaching to the choir, unfortunately. I've been trying off and on for the last couple of days to no avail. At this point I'm basically just...done with peoples' bull. My patience is gone and my filter is cracked.

While it's true it's their property, it's also a false equivalency. I don't pay them to police my speech. I pay them to facilitate a good game design, that fosters a good community. It's my job to self-regulate my interactions with people in the community. It's my job to disassociate with people I don't like, and when all else fails, it is my job to Blacklist people I cannot tolerate.

People seem to have this false idea that you just get to report anyone you dislike and silence your opposition without consequence.

You pay them to interact with their property under their rules. Same as you would pay a entrance fee to look at art in an art gallery. That doesn't mean you can burst in there and trash the place and draw with a marker over the art they show. You pay them to get access to their service and they made clear if you don't respect the rules of their house they don't need your money, which is really really nice in my opinion.

So yeah, good riddance as i said. Since they have their rules, you in fact pay them to police your speech indeed. You may not like it but it is that way and even as we speak you pay them to do exactly that, if you like it or not. And if you don't, you know where the door is!

I go by my own rules. I bend the knee to no one. The people who defend censorship are never the good guys. Never once.
