They have and they haven't. SGE is going to suffer from the same problems we have now BUT it is just going to be more palatable. The kit is 85% SCH and it's not the much more complicated than SCH, if they're not doing anything drastic with the content balance then it will still be a Dosis spam but it will just have more than SCH to break it up. It's a step in the right direction for sure but it's a two steps back 1 step forward kind of thing.
It'd have made sense to keep healers as they were satisfying their respective identities and what people liked an evolved them ready for current content and given WHM some utility to just make it more viable (heck WHM's current healing kit is better than it was in SB, so they could have still made those changes) then the current complaints would have been averted. And then to address the complaints people had about healers back then? Like them being too complex etc. then a 4th healer could have been made to satisfy them. Though I would argue WHM already filled that niche.
And what's kind disappointing is that because SGE is so similar to SCH, they could have just given SCH QoL changes and made SGE into something else to satisfy more people. Because the people who don't like SCH's healing kit or are hoping for something new will be disappointed by SGE and there are people I hear complain about SCH healing kit. Me? I like it, I wish I could use more of it. So I will not be disappointed by SGE's healing side.
However, It does feel like making the most of a bad situation and I will no doubt do that, but it really does tire when the same tired-old logic gets reused when talking about healer problems, when really the big divisive split between the people who argue "healers are healer and we want simple or no DPS" and those who argue "healers need more to do in their down time" can be satisfied because of the fact there's multiple jobs per role. As I posted earlier.
WHM: Pure Heals + Big hit damage spells, simple good entry healer
SCH : Shield Heals + DoT Mage
AST: Pure Heals + Party Buffs (which it currently is)
SGE: Shield Heals + Enemy Debuffs (this would differentiate it more from being a SCH clone)
Party buffs and enemy debuffs all would of course have to be damage related just due to the nature of the game.
