I can't imagine people being obsessed with 3 freaking mobs at start so the healer and that dps do not deserve any kindness.First time running Sunken Temple of Qarn as DRK (I've been AST for most of the time).
Pulled the first adds I see (turned out we should have sneaked past that). Realized teammates were not following me, so I went to the proper pulling area with the aforementioned adds in tow.
The healer got really salty about that. Refused to heal. A DPS agree with the healer and refused to DPS, and they both bashed me. The other DPS DPSed the adds. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough and I died. I've explained that this is my first time tanking, I have some experience as WAR but it's mostly for MSQ.
The healer refused to heal and raise me after that, pretended like I wasn't there. I ended up leaving the duty..
This was the first instance of toxicity I encountered in this game. I'm sorry if me pulling the unnecessary adds slows down your time, but simply saying "You shouldn't have done that, do this instead" and then moving on is much more appreciated. Remember, there's a person behind every character you're playing with.
I feel like I'm getting ulcers mentally from reading this. /hug
====================================
I finally have a story I want to share.
Amaurot Roulette, rolled as a WHM, paired with a PLD and double RDM.
All three were viewing cutscene at beginning and I'm already preparing for the worst.
PLD:"Hey! First timer here!"
RDM 1:"Same."
RDM 2:"Not first timer, but I'm getting back to the game after years, sorry if dps sucks."
I just give my usual greet
"It's fine" I muttered to myself in real life.
Let's roll shall we? Here goes the trash mobs in general:
- PLD sticks to single pulling. There was no problem with their cooldown usage. Wish it could've been a wall pull until I see...
- ...RDM 2 single targeting everything.
- It doesn't help that RDM 2 also cancels their cast so often by moving around.
- I also see the PLD Clemency'ing themselves once in a while in first half of the dungeon, but eventually they dropped this and went nuts with Holy Circle. I guess they're putting their faith in me? Feels good nonetheless.
Worm
- RDM 2 decide to drop their meteor together with RDM 1. That -HURTS-
- RDM 2 for whatever reason moves away from my meteor & dies to the impact.
- Granted my meteor placement was to favor melee jobs uptime, it wasn't the best for first timer as red carpet can easily distract them from the meteor impact timing.
- And yet, the two first timer followed me like obedient duckling very well.
Chicken
- As I expected, when both RDMs are tethered, they're kiting bombs, trying to kill it themselves.
- I rescued RDM 2 to my side (and the PLD) so that we can burn the bombs together in AoE blender.
- RDM 1 actually gapcloses to one of the mob and leads their bomb to the AoE blender! Wow!
- Meanwhile RDM 2 then wanders off on their own decide to kite again. Yeah, whatever.
By the time we reach 3rd boss, they all watch their cutscene. Good timing for a quick restroom break. I told them "brb rq restroom."
Fast forward few minutes to Therion:
- ...I'm dead
- I scroll up the chatbox a bit to see if there's anything hinting this perilous sight.
- Apparently the PLD asked whether the party was ready or not. As usual, nobody replied.
- So I did them a favor by saying "I'm ready... to accept the res lol."
- RDM 2 said "Res'ed you twice?"
- I replied in kind: "Can't click accept res from restroom :'D"
- While I'm in middle of ressing animation, both RDMs suddenly get deleted for whatever reason. PLD was really low in HP. I did my WHM-thing to recover from this disaster.
- By the time Therion died, they were just 1 AoE away from casting their Apokalypsis without any safe ledges for us to withdraw into. RDM 2 just loved to eat red carpets like cookies that they died twice more.
All of that took 33m to clear. I saw shoebill minion dropped, but I don't feel like staying anymore. I shoot my comm for the RDM 1. Wish I can comm the PLD too.
"Outside obvious jokes/sarcasm, I aim to convey my words to the future readers who may come across mine posts. Can I change -your- mind, somehow? Potentially... but that's not why I'm writing. You and I have wrote our piece(s). We don't necessarily need to change each other's mind. But we can change other's."
Now here's the real question: Did you guys wipe?
Normal content is so easy that going in blind is no big deal. If people wipe and ask for pointers (or ask at the beginning), then explanations should take place. I agree with everyone who said that announcing you're new by no means indicates that you want explanations. When I'm new to a duty, I let people know just so that they wouldn't get frustrated with me when I die while discovering and learning mechanics.
Then why doesn't the new person go watch the video themselves? It's the same result (since they don't have the intention of discovering the mechanics on their own) except there's no intermediary to burden unnecessarily and no waste of the instance timer (since the mentor would have to watch the guide after finding themselves in the random instance). And as a matter of fact, I did watch a guide myself quickly as a mentor when I found myself in a fight that I didn't remember that well, but I mainly did it because I didn't wanna be a dead weight. Being able to explain mechanics after watching the guide was a bonus.
Now on to my story, which is not really a story :P
Seeing people fall to Shinryu's Tidal wave never gets old. Last time I was there, everyone except me and one of the tanks went skydiving and it was hilarious. Before some people jump in to say someone should've told them about it, no one asked anything at the start of the fight and the boss was immediately pulled after the barriers dropped. Anyway, after we wiped that first time, someone asked what happened and I explained, not only because I'm a mentor but because when someone asks a question, I reply as a regular player who knows the answer.

The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D
Is it bad that I'm finding ShB's leveling dungeons difficult as a healer? My gear is 400~ and thereabouts, and tank tried to wall-to-wall in my first Dohn Mheg. Didn't go too well. I feel like I failed everyone. :T
Mortal Fist
I did too at first if I’m being honest. The mobs hit harder and I’ve only had a couple tanks who wall to walled with decent mitigation. When i do tank myself i do 2 packs in some of those runs because incoming damage is high, often dps is low, so things live forever. You’re not alone
I recall the SHB dungeons being quite the step in difficulty to heal when the expansion first dropped. Now they aren't a problem because i'm used to them. There are still some iffy pulls in there though. You also need to rely on your tank to use their active mitigation.
They can be intimidating, all leveling ShB's dungeons are nasty on w2w pulls if there is no preparation. Gotta consider also tank's gear, mitigations and dps as well.
Don't be discouraged!
Titania in Trial Roulette. One of the paladins had 39k health. Inspect, and.....he's wearing Garo gear. Not glamour, the actual level 60 gear. Complete with level 60 accessories. Several of us try to ask him if he has better gear, but he runs in and pulls anyway. The other paladin easily rips threat from him, and it goes more or less okay, until the add phase. Garo immediately gets crunched, leaving an add to wander around eating the healers. We all put in an heroic effort, but we fail the DPS check.
Fortunately, the second try, he actually does have appropriate gear, and we make it through.
I know this has been mentioned here before but shall put again because it is helpful for all to understand.
If a tank is attempting big chungus pulls in Dohn Mheg someone should or must depending on the gear, interrupt the small frogs that tether to one single mob. They will embiggen and proceed to plow the tank into another dimension. This is probably what occurred during your run and if did not I would be surprised.
I almost never see anyone use their interrupt skills anymore as if they have yeeted them from their hotbars. Also Square, pls give healer interrupt for the love of all things. This would have been good change for fluid aura instead of removing it.
So after enduring a 4-man Dalriada (cleared it with 10 min to spare), and a nail-biter of a Dal run (cleared that one with 15 seconds left on the clock before we would've been booted), and putting up with people's shenanigans in DRn (so many bodies), I've realized I've hit peak emotions when I checked my bag.
Only...so much more...to go...
This one is beyond your help. Only sleep can save her now.
