As a mentor you don’t need to know every mechanic to every fight. That’s an absurd amount of stuff to memorize. I walk into leveling dungeons I haven’t seen in months, maybe years, and don’t recall the fight til mechanics start happening.
Show me where agreeing to mentor status states i or any mentor must type up a detailed raid guide whenever confronted with a new person.
Again, I’ll reiterate, if you need a guide, if you desire a guide, look one up online. You’ll get more out of it. You also wont be wasting duty time which could be used for attempts at completing said duty. You wont be wasting the time of 7 other real life people, because you couldn’t take the initiative.
Get off your high horse. Step down off your hill of hate for mentors. Have some realistic expectations.

Queued for Omega Sigma V2, someone there was new, they state such about not knowing the mechanics. TWO battle mentors in the group. Some throw emoticons, but say nothing else. I point out isn't anyone going to explain it, no one speaks up, just attacked and started the battle.

Now that person is fine with it. But another sprout that wouldn't be? Like, this is the whole point of the mentoring system. So people need to actually mentor. I'm only a crafting mentor and could remember like only half the fight so I was worthless to explain, but the battle mentors said nothing.

I don't have the crown yet, but like if someone asks me a crafting/gather question I try to help? When I do get the crown from enough commends, I intend to study up on the fights more to be there to help?

Well the first thing is I'm not going to explain anything to anyone before we even do a single pull. It's normal content. Simply playing as RDM will allow you to carry any group to victory in normal content, so we don't need to spend minutes standing around talking about mechanics. You're welcome to learn them the way everyone else did, by seeing them and probably failing. Normal is a perfectly appropriate venue for that because we can carry the team to victory anyway.

Generally, mechanic explanations pre-pull are reserved for extreme fights only. And the only reason why I do that is because it's often necessary to clear, and getting key mechanics out of the way early helps that clear come sooner rather than later.

If you want more in-depth discussion about gameplay mechanics, then you're welcome to contact mentors privately about it. But I'm not going to stand there and waste everybody's time explaining mechanics for a fight when we don't actually need you to know the fight in order to clear.

Who says they even have a keyboard? Why didn’t you help? Or is it only the duty of mentors. Only they are held to any standard. Stop being a bridezilla over duty finder. No one is entitled to anything from anybody else beyond them trying their best to complete the duty on their own end. It is a pretty high horse you’re on. So much rage

You want me, as a mentor, to explain to a sprout that never did this extreme fight and explain them on the fly ??? Sorry but thats sounds like bait to me. I will help anyone but explaining a ex-fight on the fly to a new player is a little bit much.
If a player goes in and want to go blind ... ok for me but expect wipes and it will take time (group depeding). But mentor doesnt mean "knows everything", "respond because social game" or "god gamer 9000" has never and never will be... sooo dont be sad or mad and go on with a smile ^^

I'm not obligated to talk to anyone. I'm not obligated to tell someone that I don't know the mechanics. I don't owe anyone anything. Dying to a mechanic doesn't matter unless it's savage or extreme.

Doing Mentor roulette puts on your crown and won't let you take it off. And you're predictable so you're going to say, "then don't queue!!!!!11!". That's such a cop-out answer. Maybe the mentors queued with the intention of helping, but don't know the fight. How are they to explain a fight that they don't remember, hm? And unless the sprout directly addressed them and said, "hey, can you explain mechs to me?" then they aren't obligated to answer. They don't need to disclaim that they don't know it. Besides, as Kolaina said, literally anyone else could have explained it. But they didn't. You gonna get mad at them, too?

Short one: Another Ramuh EX. I'm waiting for my MogStation outfit to actually show up so figured why not some self inflicted torture on the good ol' DF.

Third attempt: (of three: Really good group!) Me and a Mechanist get dazzled by Ramuh's beard, as you do. Thankfully we had a Dragoon right next to us, literally one step away from putting us in his Thunder AoE. "Phew! Was worried for a second!"

Then I noticed the Sprout. And then noticed him moving the polar opposite way of us. "dragoon, dragoon pls" I plead in desperation, using his character name to replace dragoon. I didn't mean to but that puts a spotlight on someone and no one wants that kind of pressure when doing something.

Either way we get seduced by a Primal that looks like a 200 year old man and let him liberate us from this mortal coil. We recovered and won the attempt shortly after. I apologize to the Dragoon for calling him out, he said it was okay and he wasn't sure what he did.

Offered to tell him if he had a quick sec which he was down for, so I did so! He appreciated the advice and thanked me and I wished him good luck in his future adventures.

A moment of frustration turned into a pretty wholesome one. Hope he goes far!

To be fair, we wouldn't have to beat that dead horse if people remembered there's a two way street to games with co-op activities (especially of the extreme variety) in them. When I say "I'm new here" to a raid of all things, I'm not expecting an explanation from anyone (because I could've taken my time to read/watch if I really wanted to know beforehand). I'm communicating that me being new entails that I might possibly screw up to things I don't know. "Anything I should know?" Is a question I ask only in regular duties. It's not even something I'd ask in alliance raid, because despite being casual content, boss fights can have multiple important mechs and expecting someone else to write me this is a disservice to me and them.

Similarly, on the other side of the street, vets/mentors should remember that there is value in informing things of great importance, not because of some lofty ideal that you're a mentor and you should help but rather because you know if you don't tell the newbies they need to stack for the duskblade mech in Orbonne (back in its former glory), they gonna wipe, you gonna wipe, everybody gonna wipe and gonna have to deal with beefcake Cid all over again. Plus it helps to have a bit more patience than usual because only you know how much of a screw up you initially were when you partied up with mentors back when you were sprout (btw, all the "yous" here referring in general).

Unfortunately, people don't even venture into the one-way street anymore, they go straight for cul-de-sacs when it comes to mentors.

Pretty much actually. It's why the crown gets turned on in mentor roulette. So a new player/returner can look to a mentor for help. Not just be referred to some video guide. That's actually the purpose the crown is supposed to serve. Regardless, the game would be better off without it (mentorship). It's not for a mount and bragging rights, but I don't know who would want to brag about being a mentor.
