reminds me of the interrupt skill.... so many tanks and especially phys. ranged dps who doesnt use it
For colors, you can remember it easily as "If it's violet, stay by it; if it's blue, better shoo."
However, I tend to tell sprouts not to focus on the colors, but on the "ram" or "dragon". Because there are many, many, many other chimeras (and/or garms, who are the same thing) throughout the game, and none of the others reference the colors like that. But you can still see them casting "Ram's Voice" or "Dragon's Voice".
So instead of colors for a mnemonic, what I tend to teach folks in there is "Ram means Scram, otherwise Drag your butt in." -- i.e., when it's Ram's Voice, get away from the thing, while Dragon's Voice means to get close.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

I also prefer to watch for the castbar. The blue/violet eyes notification lags the start of the cast and fades before it ends so if you're distracted you'll miss it.However, I tend to tell sprouts not to focus on the colors, but on the "ram" or "dragon". Ohhhhh that's a really nice way to remember things actually
I used to tell people that rams like to headbutt you, so with rams voice you move away. And dragons like to shoot magic at you, so with dragons voice you move in xD
I see many many tell everyone the color version and it brings feist. I am happy others also give the spell names as advice instead!
Did you know that occasionally those text prompts for mechanics will glitch and never appear? I was watching two others play and one got the prompt on their screen while their partner never did. They are sitting right next to each other so I could see both monitors. Thankfully I gave them the spell names instead of that stoopid color nonsense.
One additional thing, in World Of Darkness there are three chimera at the start. I see so so very many experience demise here especially sprouts all probably looking for the violet and blue stuffs and not their cast bars in the aggro list. Yes indeed for any who do not know, aggro list shows cast bar, tis most useful when there are several enemies casting deadly abilities (Heaven on High).
Someone I know said "dragoons always die yeeting themselves off the edge of things, so when it's Dragon's Voice, don't be a dragoon -- get in close and safe".
While hilarious, I still think "ram means scram" is a lot simpler to remember.![]()

First time running Sunken Temple of Qarn as DRK (I've been AST for most of the time).
Pulled the first adds I see (turned out we should have sneaked past that). Realized teammates were not following me, so I went to the proper pulling area with the aforementioned adds in tow.
The healer got really salty about that. Refused to heal. A DPS agree with the healer and refused to DPS, and they both bashed me. The other DPS DPSed the adds. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough and I died. I've explained that this is my first time tanking, I have some experience as WAR but it's mostly for MSQ.
The healer refused to heal and raise me after that, pretended like I wasn't there. I ended up leaving the duty..
This was the first instance of toxicity I encountered in this game. I'm sorry if me pulling the unnecessary adds slows down your time, but simply saying "You shouldn't have done that, do this instead" and then moving on is much more appreciated. Remember, there's a person behind every character you're playing with.

Ive never heard of anyone trying to sneak past those first 3 adds in that dungeon in all my years of playing.
So yeah i think leaving that group was probably the best thing you could do.
That healer was either trolling or an idiot. Or both.
I've seen some sneak - done it myself too.
But tbh it's faster to just pull the damn things down the staircase and into the next mob in the room with those stones you don't need, then AoE the whole group down. Throwing a fit about the first mob pack getting pulled at all wastes a lot more time than it does to just ask the tank to keep moving to the next group and killing everything.
