I feel like I've been a tad too negative

I've said my piece about how clunky Scholar is, however, after taking a step back and analyzing the other healers, thanks to the ability leak, I still believe that there is still care put into healing.

I was scared of the Divination changes, at first, however, after looking at Astrodyne, I believe it is a HUGE improvement, because not only do we not have to frantically pump out cards to bring out our group buff in raids, we also don't have to bank our seals in dungeons thanks to the one second recast timer on the new self buff. Damage was also changed for Astrologian via the damage buff to Earthly star, the new (not so new from what I've been told) Lord of Crowns, and the new dps spell Macrocosmos. Sure we're still going to be spamming one dps, most of the time, but considering we're now going to be continuously playing the card minigame on top of using these abilities, Astrologian should feel more engaging than Shb.

Of course Sage looks really fun as well with its mode swapping and what looks to be a more engaging dps kit. Being a more GCD focused healer and the addersting mechanic makes me feel like I can actually use the job 's whole kit without eating a DPS loss in vain.

White Mage definitely feels less stagnant thanks to the new GCD changes, and it seems like they have their water magic back. While I would also like to see their earth and wind magic back while making glare the lily dump or a potency buff to misery or just make the lily abilities oGCDs, it at least feels like a step in the right direction.

I am the first to complain when I feel like a class in any game feels like it's underperforming, but while Scholar should seriously be looked at, to say the devs don't care at all about healing isn't accurate since they have given us some amazing QoL changes such as the faster GCD casts and 400 mp AoEs.

You can’t say all is bad with endwalker healer but let’s start with whm. It still uses assize on cd for the damage making you lose again a heal we’re you would need it expect in very specific situations we’re it does come of cd when a aoe hit the party already . Lilybell being on 3 mins cd makes it a very specific ability that you max can use in high end fight around 6 times and that only in very specific fights. Macrocosmos does effectively the same but on a shorter cooldown and also does dmg. Misery is still minus dmg too 310 from 300 damage ,in comparison astro gets celestial opposition, Collective, star and Helios all on 1 min cd and you don’t even need heal for Helios to get 200 potency for free. Also astro has in single target ogcd still better tools then whm. Dignity being a mini bene on just 40 seconds cd and having two charges and celestial intersect being a better bension because it’s baseline 100 potency more and can crit (also now 2 charges) and synastry increasing on a 2 min cd the heal you do on the target by 40 % is really strong. But astro also has problems, they tried last expansion to get way more away from astros rng Problem by making sleeve draw give you the missing seal every 2 mins and also base line 3 times the chance to redraw. Now you can max redraw if you miss a single seal once making the group buff not rng anymore but the self buff. Having the option to redraw once per draw is so bad I actually I have no clue why they did that and together with the sleeve draw removal makes the self buff a worse rng fest then anything after trying to make it way less rng. New king and queen you can’t consistently rely on and I mean you don’t need queen anyway one astro when you have all these ogcd every minute. King is also a whatever card 250 is nothing. And now for scholar. It now has only 1 ability for fairy gauge depletion and it’s the worse of the 2 you had. Move speed and dmg reduce buff is nice to have but we going in a raid tier were meeles can reduce magic dmg by 5 % and sprint is almost always enough every minute. Also fairy ai is still clunky and bad as hell were even summoner got it removed but sch still has to suffer it. And they also wanna neef fairy aoe heals and buff for that it’s single heal.

I sorta got hyped with Sage, hoping it would be an answer to the "One button spam problem". I was hopeful, but then the leaks made me realize it' s the same as the other healers, but slightly more streamlined.

It plays essentially like a hybrid between a SCH and a WHM, without the clunky fairy or the clipping.

Your oGCD heals are essentially SCH spells, and your DPS abilities are all GCDs to, I assume create weaving windows for healing spells. Too bad you no longer need weaving windows when your Basic filler spell has been reduced to 1.5s.
That is a QoL aspect to all healers wich I guess is welcome in classes that suffered from GCD clipping issues.

None Toxikon is a GCD you use for movement at barely any Dps gain, so there is not much reason to use it beyond those dungeon pulls.

Phlegma III is a nice break up, tho, even if its a worse Assize you can't weave into your spells. You get to use it more often at least, and that is great.

The rest of the kit is allright. It seems we'll still be spamming our Nuke for most of the fights. Oh and we get Pneuma, wich is a big AoE with a lot of healing support effects, and since it does the same damage as our basic nuke, it wont get used as a DPS tool.

It kinds bothers me how Sage seems to have been designed to make Glarebroil/Phlegma III/Dialysis and the only desirable dps options, while making the rest so incredibly circumstatial.

Phlegma III is truly the only highlight of the class in terms of DPS, on a healer that is supposed to be more "offensively" oriented. The rest is back to one button spam.

On a more positive note Haima and Panhaima seem pretty original.

At the end of the day, the content thrown at us is a big missing piece of the puzzle. Even if the kit is underwhelming, if we get a raid tier like Sigmascape or Midas again, I certainly won't care as the raids would easily make up for it.

Thankfully the track record is pretty good for the first raid tier of each expansion, so I'm hopeful.

Curious do you think eden 1-4 savage was a good raid tier. For me it felt pretty meh, don’t get me wrong it was ok but Titan was more a heal check then a mechanic check. Levi was the same mechanic again with some spice. Voidwalker was pretty interesting.

I do! It wasn't perfect but from a Healy healer's perspective, I enjoyed it.

After the tragedy that was Alte Roite, starting E1S with Eden Prime being a stern but overall forgiving fight was a nice twist. No classic, but fine in my book.

E2S Voidwalker was actually a fight I really enjoyed and I'm actually not sure why as I don't think it was particularly well regarded overall? It's a slow paced and methodical fight with loads of optimisation potential even for an old relic like myself.

E3S Levi, I liked the theme of the fight and all the forced movement rewarded good slide casting, thoughtful Lilly usage and it had some carry potential for the healers. It gets another 'fine' from me.

E4S Titan was always going to be a favourite of mine since I have nothing but fantastic memories of Titan HM and EX back in the day. The initial 2/3rds of the fight were more typical fare with it really just being a modernised Titan fight. The last phase with the forced merry go round movement and large HPS check was an absolute favourite of mine though.

Overall I think it was a pretty solid tier.

Funnily enough this is why I enjoyed healing Titan Savage. I think if we did get more healing checks then we can find their current toolkits engaging.

And I echo Sebazy's comments about old school Titan too, Titan EX was my favourite trial for a long time. It felt like a good example of mechanics making good use of the healers. Titan Savage I feel did the same. Also Memoria Misera was good for this too IMO. Though it was at this stage I was in the "freshly married" phase of maining AST, so maybe that skews it, but I hope not because if I return to that, I hope it's still fun now that I've played AST a lot more.

I'm still kinda still optimistic about it, cautiously so. I feel like there is some step in the right direction and some QoL improvements that could make it more interesting...it does feel like SCH but with some of the QoL SCH needed.

But yes, I agree that the way Toxicon is going to work for single target is only going to be useful when mobility is needed and that's a shame.

And it'll still be a spam but there's more to break it up. And I kinda see it as an improvement that you have 2 buttons to apply your DoT instead of one lol it's a weird thing to think of as an improvement, but in a way, that was SB SCH's main DoT (instead of Bio II -> Miasma is now Eurcrasia -> Eucrasia Dosis)

I feel like Toxicon needs a single target version that's stronger than Dosis. I think that's what's missing here.

AST on the other hand, I'm more optimistic about. And I know there's a lot of disappointment over AST losing Noct but...I'm going to wait until the media tour until I give my reasons why so I don't share anything I heard about the leaks. At least, I see i is an improvement on 5.0 AST. Whether one on 4.0 or 3.0 AST, maybe not, but I come at this from somebody who mained SCH before 5.0.

Sage at least was already out there because of the tooltips from the live letter.

I mean we had these in stormblood. I just think healing check are ok but I rather prefer actually mechanics for healer (and no I don’t count esuna as a healing mechanic it’s just the same stuff as standing and pressing medica or Helios) Planning heals in a static is fun for the first 10 or so try’s. I for myself think shivas 2 dragon heads right at the end are cool because you can get either red or blue and different timings. Sad that the first one gives you only reds on healer.

Sage seems good--it's basically just stormblood scholar with individual attacks instead of DoTs for their GCDs. yknow, the gameplay style that yoshi deemed too offense-oriented and said that scholar players were doing no healing at all in lieu of their WHM co-healer (who had so busted a healing kit at the time that they could handily solo-heal content anyway, and disregarding things like "team communication" or "powerful reactive healing OGCDs" and "trusting your co-healer" regardless) and wholesale removed from the game.

i'm sure it'll handle like a dream for folks like me who miss old scholar and enjoy having a thing to do with downtime as a healer after two years without--though if the supposed leaks are correct, that's the only healer that's going to have a non-soulcrushingly boring time of things unless they do a massive overhaul to the rest, which is more than disappointing.

I really hate to keep bringing this up, but when Yoshi said that exact quote he was 100% dead wrong. At the time, this was what healers were doing on hard content:

Summary: SCH's where healing just as much as WHM's were while WHM was staying within 10% of the SCH's DPS output.
    (6)
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
