Call it however you want, but there is a reason why WoW is successful for ages like other games with similar systems. FF14 has no real progress system. Everything can be done with low gear - low efford besides savage / ultimate. A real progress system with rewards, which assists you, and a decent more optional learning curve would be far better than the current "easier options" or braindead wall to wall bang.

This game has the PS advantage and is a RP heaven with all the bling bling. But it lacks hard gameplay and content wise. There is a reason why so many ppl don´t know how to play and don´t even want to put some efford in a class or whatever. The game doesn´t force anything and so they´re like "I don´t care, i do a good job."

WoW was successful because it was the first. Because it used to know how to tell a story. Because it was the only game on the market that did what it did. Others followed. Most of the true knock-offs-with-differences didn't make it. It was most popular during its second expansion. I don't call dropping 10 million monthly paying subscribers over the next 13 years "successful". It was the first MMO for many players who are now in their 20s and 30s -- and that counts a lot toward its popularity, despite the game style. I played the game through the beginning of BFA and then abandoned the game. Realistically, I should have abandoned it when I first started playing FFXIV, but the Warlords storyline was interesting enough and Legion became fun to play for a while still.

I enjoy a game where the story has meaning, where I have meaning. WoW lost out because the story didn't mean anything to the company. I as a player didn't matter -- all the major bad guys were defeated by NPCs, not by me. This is storytelling at its worst. If all I wanted was an arena game with a story line where Things Happen only in books, there were plenty of other options.

I've enjoyed the FFXIV storyline. I, as a player, matter. I defeat the major bad guys, not some carefully crafted NPC whose major contributions to the storyline are in a book.

FFXIV has become successful because it does its own thing. It is not a one-for-one WoW clone, which, frankly, is the best thing it has going for it. SE has a different idea on where they want to take the game. It may not be to your liking, and that's ok.

The game is only "braindead" because you're vastly overqualified to play it. FFXIV never promised to be the next WoW-killer. The fact that so many WoW players are trying it is great, but the game is not dependent on those WoW players. It has developed its own niche. Thankfully, it appears as though the Producer's vision is to continue in that direction.

Just as I wouldn't want to oblige that 24-man raids enter the obliged weekly grind for players who've already done Savage (and don't care to gear up alts), I see no point in requiring harder 4-man content as a requisite step before 8-man content, especially given that the experiences are so different anyways.

WoW is NOT the first and will never be. Pls don´t talk about stuff you seem to have no clue about.

FF14 failed hard and needed a completely revamp so far. And a lot of stuff is just copy & paste in this game. Just check out ARR or HW. There are HC dungeons.
If SE´s idea is to downgrade the game until the last disabled person or a 1 year old baby is able to clear it, then their idea sucks.

Pretty much 99,9% of all players are overqualified in this game. How many players do even put efford into dungeons or the MSQ? How many got so hard stressed with them? The most bad players are only bad, because they don´t have to be better and don´t care about it so far. They don´t even read their fcking skills.

And while WoW players check out other games in times with no content, the FF14 players do the same. And i promise the most guys won´t stay in this game, because the whole early game is a boring 1 button XP grind. Any other MMO out there has a better gameplay-experience than this game, especially through the level-phase.

This game has a story yes. But any singleplayer-game has a story. As MMORPG ppl expect more teamplay and of course challenges you can beat together, rewards and a great environment. Dungeons are far away from being a challenge as much as MSQ is. The environment is once seen and only re-used with relic weapon fate-grind. We don´t even get a bunch of dungeons anymore, we get 1 wall to wall bang with some new colors. Class quests and a decent MSQ fight? No, it would be too much to balance. Everyone should play Alphinaud, Alisae or whoever with a pre-designed 2 button spam fight.

It´s a mystery that ppl can´t see all the design flaws and lazyness of the devs which are very well presented since SHB. The story is the ONLY thing which is good, but gameplay and content-wise, it´s the worst expansion i´ve played all my life.

We´ve either braindead content without rewards or progress, or we´ve "10% efford" content with a 0,01% dropchance or 99 kills for a mount. Do you really feel rewarded about it? Do you really think "Man we did so good!"?
Seriously, is a MSQ with an easy option together with 1 000 000 dungeon and fategrinds to level up different classes, just to touch them never again, everything you want?

This game is missing so much which is not called "glam", "animation" or "braindead". SE´s Vision is to make money with all the "animation lovers" out there instead of creating a real gameplay-experience with some depth, a progress system and rewards.

The first among MMOs. The most successful MMO. For the reasons enumerated.

Serious question: Why are you playing it? I would have moved on by now. I've tried out most MMOs created in the last 20 years, and when it doesn't satisfy, I drop it.

You understand that people can still enjoy a game, but wish it was better?(in their opinion of course)

I don't think scaling up the HP and damage of mobs would make for a fun hard mode experience.

What we really need from harder dungeons is trash mobs that do more than just AoE circle damage you gotta avoid so that playing the dungeon makes you actually think on to how to approach it. Like actual mechanics from mobs. Bosses could just be the same but do more damage.

A lot of titles showed how great dungeons and raids can be even without HP / damage scaling. I don´t know why SE don´t even try to give us real content. They could copy & paste so many mechanics or atleast get some ideas from them.
And yes... the good old "don´t wake that elite or we wipe" while clearing the rest of the trash. Or puzzles around them.

Bosses shouldn´t stay the same. The "every 20s happens something" pattern is way too easy and too boring. That we only have 1 boss at once in 99% of all fights isn´t a big deal too. Nothing to take care about but stack / spread / tb / aoe. No matter if we talk about dungeons or raids. Even in savage content they make the boss untargetable when a mechanic appears and SE is like "oh that´s toooooo hard". Moving from A to B to C... wow.... I really thought E8S would be a turnaround. The fight had everything but multiple bosses. The boss was targetable the whole time, you had 2 DPS checks, you needed cc, silence and cleanse. And we had NO safespot. E9-E12 proofed my hopes wrong since they got ride of everything.

Dungeons could be the same, especially hardcore dungeons. And give DPS players more to do than "doing damage". Give them solo mechanics, DPS checks, different targets you need to focus down. There are so many ways to build something great, challenging and which can be done in several ways.

Have you ever considered, that pretty much EVERY MMORPG is getting dumb´d down, because ppl are like "Äääääh too hard!", "Ääääh shitty game!", "Ääääh but i want that too without being number 1 in the ranking!", "Äääääh...."
The whole game-market is infested by lazy ppl, who just want want want...., but actually have no clue about gaming and can´t even differentiate between good or bad games and have no clue how to play a game. They look at some graphics and animations, j... on halfnaked characters, maybe staying afk in limsa all day long to present some glam and uwu emojis...
Yes, everyone should have a chance to have fun at a game. But everyone could even have fun in a game with a little bit efford from themselves. That some ppl pay for a bit bling bling and fate grind won´t go in my mind. But if anyone wants some more depth in content and gameplay "Määääh don´t touch my braindead-mode!!!!" It´s absolutely disgusting in which direction the whole gaming industry went because of this bs.
Just lately another game i play got a balance update were some adds got slightly buffed. The first reaction was "OMG it was already hard, now it´s impossible!" Blablaba... ppl are just bad, should accept it and stop to make every game a no-brainer. Practice and READING is the answer for everything.
But hey, there are ppl who spent 1500€/$/pounds or more each month in games like candy crush, what should i expect from so called "MMO-Gamers".
