    I have to agree here.

I mean, I understand that we cant get 5 new quests for each job any more, but I was really looking forward going into Shadowbringer to get at least a level 80 Quest for my big robot.

But... nope, i just got it. My Turret just upgraded to a big robot just like that...

I get a Giant Robot, you cant tell me there is no way to make a quest around that...

For my case, i would at least have loved for them to make role quests but with our old job quest trainers/npc
(with so much classes being made in the long run, and with their staff not growing that much, it makes sense unfortunately that they can't really make those job quests anymore, would be too much with all they have to do, well that's what comes to my mind, if you have more info feel free to corret/inform me ><)

Like having all those tank characters meet for a quest all together would have been cool i think, instead of a new character that we'll probably never see again in our entire life (doesn't stop them from introducing those with our old job trainers of course)

But as told, that doesn't resolve the biggest issue of, who trained me when it comes to this particular new spell

SMN gained the ability to summon Phoenix in Shadowbringers. Considering a prominent NPC sacrificed his life to transform into Phoenix in the lore, the fact that SMN just gets Phoenix out of nowhere is troubling. This shows the lack of attention to detail the game developers have shown considering how homogenized the game play has become.

There are really only 5 jobs in this game, less than what the game started with in 1.0.

I think the devs said that it could be a good idea for us to go through the job quests before going into EW. So I can definitely see our job trainers play a part in the new role quests.
Also, regarding the 'characters we will never see again'. If you did all the role quests and the additional bits at the end...I think it is quite safe to assume that the characters we met in the ShB role quests will play a bigger role in an upcoming expansion, or at least in a raid series or something like that. Maybe even in the 6.0 exploratory zones which have not been announced yet...

Regarding who trained you for spells : the crystal. That's pretty much what the crystals are all about isn't it? The MCH is probably the exception due to WoL being one of the first MCH...

I have to agree on that one. When I lvl'd SMN and just got Phoenix I was very disappointed by the lack of fanfare. Such a missed opportunity.

And the 5 jobs thing is spot on. Funny thing is, I just had that discussion with a friend of mine today. lol In other FFs jobs are different from one another but in XIV only roles are. And 5.0 didn't do that any favours. The game is certainly past its prime and now it's only about how long you can secure a steady income by catering to the most common denominator.

Still waiting 4 for men raid content. PotD and HoH are way too boring with their randomisation (and you hardly need 4 people to begin with).

I disagree. There is just 1 job: DPS. Some jobs have more mitigation or healing abilities than other. But at the end, they all fill the same need: surviving in order to do some DPS.
And I think it is not a bad thing.

Or how did we discover this ability for ourselves.
    Good point.

Hmm... the ARR & HW job quests, I felt at least, did a pretty good job of explaining this. You learn your abilities through your job stone. Every time you complete a quest that awards a new ability, you hold the stone up at the end when it tells you your new ability and usually gives you some sort of message similar to that. And if you have completed Shadowbringers, this is sort of hinted at even more.

"Then what is magic for?" Prince Lir demanded wildly. "What use is wizardry if it cannot save a unicorn?"
Schmendrick did not turn his head. With a touch of sad mockery in his voice, he said, "That's what heroes are for."

Yeah, nobody is "training" you in these long lost magics. You learn them through the job crystal.

    Yep.
And in that specific case, it's not like Louisoix created Phoenix.
If you read the 4th chapter of Tales From The Shadows, you would understand that learning Phoenix from a soul crystal can actually make sense.
