Thank you for the replies. Beddict, you are right -- I discounted that the Garleans are people who live to avenge their misfortune. I need to get the encyclopedias then. That their symbol is a chain (or broken chain?) and Zenos has had it with the Ascians founding the human empire... even choosing to pick up the scythe... I am so excited for humans to be cool again. They are the race I never choose in any fantasy game because I play one every day.

EDIT: Also, I am new, so I don't feel comfortable making a new thread, but may I suggest just one called "FANDANIEL AND HIS..." where everyone can write absurdities.

Well, technically they're hyur not 'humans', but same difference...

As for a thread for absurd lore things and ideas, we have the Headcanon thread for that which you might be interested in having a look at (beware, spoilers abound): https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...nal-Headcanons

Either way, welcome to the Lore forum (and Eorzea) Vormela!

I'm pretty sure Venat had her own '12' and we're going to learn about them.

    The convocation had fourtheen seats.
We have 12 gods, and no mention of a 14th or 14th among them. They are strictly 12.

3 Members of the convocation were not sundered, thus only 11 members became a "reflection on the glass" sundered, spread through the shards of reality.
1 Member is Azem which is sundered and related by some to Azeyma. Same Sun vibes. BUT, the seat of Azem is that of the Wanderer - And the Wandering God is Oschon.
Venat is sundered as far as we know, which is weird as Elidibus wasn't. We really need more info on the particulars of not being sundered and being sundered diferences - Aside powers or being merely an imperfect self of a whole self before reality was split.

But still it doesn't fit numerically.

    14 Seats.
    14 Ascians.
    12 Gods.

There a lot of information missing.
They are all related to tarot though, to constelations particulary. Even reading some FFXII and Tactics lore wouldn't help this diference though.

My theory is that rather than being related to the Convocation.
The Twelve are indeed Ancients, some kind of survivor of the summonings of both Zodiark and Hydaleyn that through unknown methods survived the Sundering and inherited the lands of the Source right after. My reasoning are the depictions of them like being a very hastely put together family, like a bunch of stranded people on an island. In this case, reality bending stranded people that after ages we belive them to be gods.

Technically, there are 13 gods in the 12 as Nald'thal are actually two twin entities combined into one. It would track that the Twelve were the Convocation if it weren't for the wrinkle that Azem is among them when logically they would be the one who was missing. I personally think it's more likely that The Twelve are either Venat's group with Azem squeezed in there despite not being a proponent of Hydaelyn or the trace memories of Azem and the friend group that want around to save people of the world.

It wouldn't be the first time we/Urianger make wrong assumption though.
Azem being related to Azim/Azeyma is what we currently believe because there are obvious connections (the name, the Sun), but there is nothing to confirm that.
Maybe the naming convention used for the Twelve followers of Hydaelyn is similar to the naming convention of the original convocation.
Maybe Venat did not want a 'seat of Fandaniel' in her crew for some reasons, and that could be why they are only Twelve.

I can't wait to figure out Fandaniel's allegiances since his crystal is damaged and it seems he would be able to fill in the blanks. I think he is gonna go from being a school-shooter/Herostratus bookburner/famechaser to something completely different. If he really is just being a renegade in emulation of us like Elidibus was with the Warrior of Light archetype then that will be so cool. I love him so far. Go back and watch the Asahi scenes if you haven't!! They are worse than I remembered! I didn't remember he actually shoots his sister with a gun.

I wonder if there are any fans of Phantasy Star in the FFXIV dev team and storyboard writers. If so, I wonder if they'll do an homage to Mother Brain and Dark Force/Zio. Endwalkers would be the perfect time for it, and it would be so subtle given that those games were on the beginning portion of when stories could really be fleshed out in games, so they only cover broad strokes.

Somewhat doubtful, but Fandaniel is, in some regards, similar to Zio from Phantasy Star IV. Hades's battle form was kinda similar to Dark Force, heh.

Just thinking this randomly. It's not really a serious speculation. I was just listening to a metal cover/remix of Laughter from Phantasy Star IV, and my brain was like, "Hey Zio is kind of like an Ascian isn't he?" and I was like, "Explain." So my brain had me start doing comparisons to pictures of Dark Force and Hades and Zio and Ascians and Mother Brain and Hydaelyn.

Obviously, it's only the wider tropes that really connect these things and this idea, but it was just a fun little thing to do while a nearly guestless night drags on at the hotel.

Why Phantasy Star? I thought Star Ocean would make a bit more sense considering it's part of Square Enix (just ignore how the world Star Ocean was supposed to be in the third game)

Because the overarching plot of Phantasy Star as laid down by Phantasy Star IV was that two god-like beings fought in the Algo Solar System eons ago. They were beings of Light and Dark. Light won eventually, but it couldn't destroy the Profound Darkness, so it sealed it away creating/using the planets that make up that solar system as a seal. (In broad strokes this is wildly similar to Hydaelyn sealing Zodiark twofold. His main chunk in the Moon, but his other chunks in the shards(incidentally)).

Each of the Light/Dark forces in each Phantasy Star game take control of people by either altering their destiny or communing with them via dreams/telepathy. The Darkness can only come about once every 1,000 years, however, so both sides lie dormant for a long time.

I'm not really familiar with Star Ocean, but my impression was that it was more just straight up Sci-Fi with some fantasy mixed in. I've only played the second and the third, and only like half of either. I remember the twist in the third one was that the characters lived in a simulated 3-D world and had to break out of it to kill 4-D people or something. But I don't know much about the storylines for the first and second, other than you can alter the ending like 80 different ways.
