Crazy Personal Headcanons

Despite all the lore presented to us in-game and the two books, it still feels like there are some lore gaps, weird retcons, and other things that aren’t quite explained fully. People make up their own ideas of things outside the known lore either just for fun, to explain something, or to fill in a gap for RP. Sometimes that even makes it to canon (like the powers that be saying “sure, why not” to au ra kissing by rubbing horns). It doesn’t have to be something earth shattering but I was wondering if other people have little ideas of stuff that goes on in this world that they wanted to share.

One of my own crazier examples goes back to 1.0 with Good King Moogle Mog. I thought I heard the music changing as you offed the moogles one by one and their parts of the song went silent. And I remembered that as we got to the subsequent primals in ARR and beyond that had their own modern-sounding tracks with lyrics.

I came up with a dumb non-canon idea on my own that the music we hear in a primal fight is heard by our character. Most of the songs already have lyrics that are either sung by the primal or their followers (notable exceptions for Ifrit and Garuda who were done by the old team and Bismarck who is just a big dumb whale). So whenever we’re in a fight, we’re being sung at by the primal or their followers or our echo sounds and we’re hearing the thoughts of who we’re fighting like in Shiva’s case. The music accompanying the lyrics is either how the echo interprets the input or just the pure power of the primal warping reality combined with echo stuff.


Does anyone else have thoughts like these or do I just think too much?

but on the real, sometimes I think of stuff like this but then the game like to prove my idea wrong within a patch or two.

When my retainers bring back items from the First, it's actually Feo Ul giving it to them to troll me by making me wonder how they got it. Iyami knows what's actually going on, but plays along anyway to keep her volatile pixie friend happy.

At the end of the day, we are all just some flamboyant sprites branch, er, or sapling? Yeah, we are saplings, they are the branch.

Also, the fact that we can't call her and get that super cute cutscene whenever we want should be a warcrime. D:<

I would honestly love to be able to just put "Feo Ul" in say chat in any area and trigger a small cutscene where she shows up for a quick bit of stock dialogue, then leaves. Any area. Middle La Noscea, Praetorium, The Burn. Everywhere.

I have this headcanon where every time a certain retainer of mine (it's always the same one! I'm talking about you, Der! you naughty boi!) bring me housing items,
he's actually ran off to break into other people's houses to steal their furniture. But!! He doesn't do it out of malice; rather, he actually can't help it since
he suffers from kleptomania (which is an actual illness btw). Chanai isn't amused by it, of course, but he IS empathetic so he will go out of his way
to ensure that his retainer doesn't get into trouble for it. He will sell the stolen goods on the black market if he cannot find the owners of the items Der has stolen.

I know this comment is a year old, but it still makes me happy because I like Susano and want to imagine him enjoying himself somewhere without draining all the aether.

The name of the moon of Hydaelyn is "Menphina" after the Eorzean goddess of the moon.

"But why would different cultures who have their own moon gods/goddesses call the moon by the name of some foreigner's deity?"

Because Allag. It's always Allagans. Now while Allag did eventually become a scientifically driven society with no belief in true deities, it was originally an Eorzean city-state, and thus had a patron god from the Twelve (probably Azeyma because of all the associated sun symbolsim we see) and probably called the moon by the name of their known moon deity.

Even after the loss of faith in the Twelve, they probably didn't bother to change the name they used to refer to said celestial body, and so when they conqueured everyone on the three continents and spread their language, they also forced them to refer to the moon in the same way they did. And this remained ingrained in the descendants of those people even after Allag's fall. This reasoning is also why Dalamud is known as Dalamud by everyone.

Thancred and Y'shtola dated for a few months when they were seventeen and it went disastrously wrong and Thancred knows it's mostly his fault but they've never talked about it or gotten closure and everyone knows about it but no one brings it up.

It explains everything.
