Though I gotta admit if I bought a $1000 doll I would probably never touch it beyond arranging it in a glass case. I've owned cheaper cars.

I'm just not seeing "quality" in what little information is available.

From what I've gleaned most of the price is from the handpainted/crafted factor along with her head being a unique sculpt, the popular license, and her outfit being very complex. Similar dolls on the site go for around the same.

The Yshtola doll reminds me of Leech Woman from the 1989 "Puppet Master" movie. I really hate to speak ill of an artist's work, but this doll is disturbing on so many levels.

Giving people shit for what they collect or enjoy always reeks of insecurity imo.
Even in gaming with industry people ( especially game journalists ) I've seen people unironically act ashamed and apologetic because they enjoyed a '' not serious '' video game like DMC5 and Code Vein.
There's definitely a very vocal group of people in gaming that act like only '' seriousface and sad '' games like God of War and TLOU can be enjoyed by adults, and any game that is a bit wacky or doesn't spend most of the time being sad is '' for kids/ immature people ''.
Imo being an actual adult entails not being insecure about these things, I think people who are insecure and try to hide what they enjoy are the immature ones.
It's like they're trying too hard to prove how '' mature '' they are and it's really transparent and obnoxious.
If you have to prove it then it's probably not true to begin with.

Either way I don't even think that these are toys either, there's nothing wrong with collecting them but I kinda separate figures and toys a bit.
Transformers for example are something that you can buy a kid and that they can play with, I think that these are a bit too expensive and moreso meant for display.

Edit: With that said I'd still buy and collect FFXIV toys lol.
Especially since they'd most likely be a bit more affordable too, I'd actually really like that.

I find the dolls design extremely attractive and nice looking. I almost thought it was CGI at first.
If I could afford it, I would definitely buy one. So I don't know where the uncanny valley thing come from, but I guess people are just different? I might find one thing very visually pleasing and someone else might find it very disturbing.

Pretty funny how people seem fine with overpriced XIV merchs all the time but when it's a more niche type of collector items it's overpriced.

I don't think it's overpriced. I've seen some of these dolls in person at a shop in Akihabara, they look incredible. I just don't have the interest to spend over a grand on it (once taxes, shipping, etc are included).
