I see a Summoning rotation with the occasional Energy Drain combo of Ruin 3 > Ruin 4(it's AoE now) > Fester or Painflare (depending on ST or AoE fights)
Why do people think the Demi-Summons attack on their own now?
It's pretty clear that when Yoshi summons Phoenix it just sits there doing nothing until he uses Revelation and starts pressing GCDs. In fact, it even looks to me like his Energy Drain use during Phoenix actually forces a Scarlet Flame usage which would be a very interesting return to Stormblood mechanics.
Edit: I suppose without auto-attacking, the pet has no target so that's why it is just sitting there. I see that the MCH and DRK pets do the same thing. Still, the rate at which Bahamut uses Wyrmwaves seems awkward and I really want to see more and an official tooltip. If the Demis do auto attack on their own, I very much dislike that design decision and hate that we're losing even more interaction with the job.

Yeah, the Demi won't do anything until you do an action. We assume that they WW/SF by themselves because of the actions trailer where the smn uses 1 spell and Phoenix does 2 SF before smn uses another. Why do people think the Demi-Summons attack on their own now?

What side of smn was ever DoT related... at all in ff series?
Summoner wasn't ever really a "pure" summoner, meaning they only summon and have access to no other abilities. Like, classic and iconic summoners throughout the franchise like Yuna, Rydia, Eiko and Garnet were more White mages and Black mages with the ability to occasionally summon. This new iteration is the closest the mainline franchise will have to a pure summoner. Technically, Dissidia and NT Yuna could be called pure in the same way 6.0 is but I digress.
Well, SMN was reworked in expac in 4.1 after several issues in 4.0, it was reworked in 5.1 (or 5.2 ?) after issues with 5.0.
In France we say "jamais 2 sans trois", never 2 without 3.
Ha Ha Ha. Seriously, they should turn to beta testing, more extensive than media tour.
Anyway, I'm ok with what I'm seeing, and even if I wasn't, SMN rotation changed more often than there were expacs so I know better now that to keep gripe on one peculiar iteration.
I still dont know what to think of the changes. I've been a SMN main since ARR, and they always molest the class. i juts hope they got it right this time, but we will see.
There is no ramp up to bahamut.I noticed that energy Drain seems to be on a minute long cool down but we still only get two stacks of aetherflow from it. This should be reconsidered. With a lot more instant casts it seems and summoner remaining mobile keeping more oGCD's is very important, so I would suggest keeping the cool down on it at 30 seconds to keep the job feeling busy.
Retro Edit: Now that I see that Ruin 4 procs only ONCE off of aether flow and that there is no on call OGCD to get the opener moving, I would say this is another thing that needs to be re-considered. Right now based on what we saw from Yoshi's play through, there will be a lot of clipping in the summoner opener with trying to get out everything as you ramp to bahamut. Ruin 4 being tied to a minute long cool down on energy drain doesn't seem like the best idea. Maybe making it a charged action would work better.
