Emet was the Ascian responsible for Vauthry. He's not opposed to getting to grips with details like that. Also, on a purely speculative note, it could end up that Zenos was modified in the womb in a similar way as Vauthry.

The question then becomes with what, and why? Emet's not as crazy as Lahabrea, so there's a method behind that madness, and an end goal. Was he attempting to create an artificial Ascian so it'd be easier to replace fallen Ascians? Was it part of the original plan for the 7th Calamity? Or was he attempting to bring back somebody he knew in an Unsundered body?

Emet said, partly tounge-in-cheek in response to an insulting question from Thancred, that Ascians scheme every hour of every day. I'm sure they have hundreds of plans in play at any one time, and across all remaining shards. From a purely practical writing standpoint, those offer us multiple future plot threads - "uh, oh, Ascian scheme #253 has caused x catastrophe because no Ascians are around to manage them any more!" - but any, all, or none of our theories may be answered in 6.0.

As Koji would say, "Speculate, speculate, speculate!"

One of my theories is Emet tried with Allag and maybe Zenos to try and get a body to have the same amount of aether that an Ancient would. After all the Allagans were just normal sized beings. Only after the resurrection of Xande did Amon get a few other ideas. Thus it would be natural to mess around and try again with a body and soul like Zenos.
