It was years ago so I can't remember what I put for the other name but I think I might have put Exodus as the last name cause it won't let u just use one name, either that or Prophet, but nothing crazy so not sure why it didn't work.I would be very surprised if "Moses" was the problem, unless there's some extra meaning to the name that I'm not aware of either.
Did you try it with any other surname options? More likely it was spelling something obscure between the end of the forename and the start of the surname.
With all the crazy censorship goin on nowdays I wouldn't be surprised, if u can think it then I'm sure somewhere somebody can get offended by it lol.I never heard of it either, I'm kind of surprised the GMs would have even thought to ban it. I'm guessing there's a story there.
That's an incredibly silly restriction, because that is still a name people have today. Imagine being told your own damn name is not allowed because it's a restricted term.
I should have called this earlier when I read this topic the first time. When I thought to myself, what would you put after Moses that would make a naughty word? Exodus certainly felt like it fit the bill, with “sex” being sandwiched in the middle. I dunno if that is restricted or if it checks for simple combined words between names like that, just going off what someone else in topic said.

That definitely sounds like it would have been the issue. People have had similar issues in the past where they post their unaccepted name and you can see there's a blocked word split across the two halves of the name.I should have called this earlier when I read this topic the first time. If you have the in-game profanity filter switched on you'll also see it blocks things split across multiple words, sometimes even blocking bits of system messages, probably to stop people from s p a c i n g i t o u t to bypass the filter.

If I was creating a game I would blacklist names of famous religious figures because sometimes people use those names with the intention to cause offence. I have seen that sort of thing happen already in other games. It's much less of a headache for game customer service and players to deny access to those sort of names, than to risk the fallout that can happen from their misuse. Especially if an incident became famous in social media.I would be very surprised if "Moses" was the problem, unless there's some extra meaning to the name that I'm not aware of either.

There's also Thule in Everquest. Two zones use the name among other things, and I think one of the gods. As well as an expansion pack.
Some restrictions are dumb. Like in wow, you can't use certain colors as names for pets. Yet someone was allowed to name a gorilla after a certain US president. And no, it wasn't the orange one.

I originally tried to name this character "Janus" with a last name I forget. Valerian maybe.
Janus was the Roman god of time and gateways and I just felt like it had that Final Fantasy vibe. Not allowed. Took me a while to realize it was probably blocking the name due to everything after "J". I would never have seen the name like that if not for the block but hey.
At least you can use knight unlike a certain game, these restrictions are always stupid.
It's very strange what the automated system blocks, but actual GMs see as okay. I have a few friends who made incredibly questionable names on the basis that:
1) They were starting together and couldn't think of a good name yet, wanted time to think about it, but also wanted to just jump right in.
2) Surely they could just report each other later, take a strike, and rename.
It was a strat that has worked on other MMOS without fail. SE took a look at these obviously explicit innuendos and went "ALL GOOD AND CLEAN HERE! HAVE FUN, ALL!"
The reactions they get in roulettes are gold.
Some of it feels stupid at times and can apply even for chat in some cases. Hell twitch has banned non english speaking streamers just because a word in their native language that was spoken during their stream sounded similar to one of the words on their offensive word list.
In the end not a single thing in this universe exists that doesn't have someone claiming it to be offensive. Rather than wasting all this effort trying to shield people from things they might find offensive, make it a point to teach people how to coexist with the things they don't like. Some places are taking this shielding to the level of trying to bury, hide, or erase dark blotches on their history because they say it offends people. In those cases I think it's good if it does and that makes it more important for it to remain in plain sight. Otherwise the same mistake is just going to be repeated later.
