Please tell me that this is trolling?
- the angering black mages? Not sure what one means. I am sure most black mages would simply move over to blood mage, since most of us play it because of the destruction it brings. You don’t get more destructive and thermotage then blood mage. It’s also cool for paladins who sick of the boring easy rotation of paladin.
The mana thing could be annoying, but all it requires is for SE to allow mana regeneration ability [we already have] to restore mana in fire stance. Problem solved.
BLM rotation is only easy against a target dummy. The moment you have to move it becomes exponentially more difficult and is why BLM is considered such a difficult job to master. You can't take a job like that and then throw in the randomness of the tank screwing up it's rotation whenever they feel like it. The 2 hits the BLM would lose would most likely be Fire IV...... yeah. Either that or half of the AoE rotation.A sacrifice person!!! You kind of nailed it perfectly. BLM would loose some dps, you would loose about 2 hits before one was forced to switch to ice form, which would make the class even harder to play then it is even now, which is good since the rotation for BLM is super easy. This is spice of life. Since this class is already said to be hardest, making it harder won’t effect many people.
Regarding the healers, you would just use the ability as an emergency heal and not use it 100% of time. It’s an optional ability that one does not always have to have on. Kind of like the dark knight- he has reanimate like ability, how often does one use it? If you have a competent healer your not going to need it. As someone said, variety is the spice of life.
If this job was created it would make BLM hell and make the players rage on a frequent basis, and would probably put healers into therapy if they are the only mage in the party. If the damage was as high as you claim (so good 2 casts of Fire IV don't matter) then it would be horribly unbalanced next to the other tanks.
Not to mention
Multiple job prerequisites = already tried, tested and removed
Stance dancing = already tried, tested and removed
Multi-role = already tried, tested and they wish they could remove
I'm not seeing your chances of getting this idea over the line to be honest.
Aside from the flaws pointed out, I'd like to see a caster job focusing on dark magic, if BLM doesn't go in that direction. We already have a melee dps incorporating this concept, so I am not keen on another immediately after occupying the same niche. Seems redundant. Where I see room for a new job to make its mark is a DOT mage of some description, as SMN has a different focus.
Another sword/melee focused job is not of huge interest to me. A new caster, on the other hand, would be.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I get this job maybe isn’t the best in terms of design, but it’s at least unique which is pretty unheard of in 14, with so many jobs just being carbon copies of one another. It would be nice to see SE branch out from their comfort zone and go back to introducing interesting complex jobs, but considering how much the casual fan base screamed before i don’t see it happening.
I dont have a problem with more complexity in jobs, but this one is, as I said, great for a single player game, not so much for an mmo. I cant speak for everyone, but I am not joining a DF or alliance raid, nor anything else, just to supply someone with mana, I play, and pay my sub, to have fun, not to be a mana battery for one class. and as mentioned, this would mess up, not just make difficult, but actively interfere with any class that uses the mana to either dps or heal. and that has little to do with some inaccurate casual label. you cant tell me that some leet savage type is going to willingly give up dps so that the tank can heal themselves off their dime.I get this job maybe isn’t the best in terms of design, but it’s at least unique which is pretty unheard of in 14, with so many jobs just being carbon copies of one another. This is another case of someone thinking an idea is good and not thinking about the context of it ingame and how it will impact the gameplay of someone else.
Bad idea is bad, think more critically about your idea before proposing something.
i agree, i remember back then when people were suggesting dark/void themed jobs everybody jumped up saying „but the lore!!!“
but here we are, reaper is going to be released in a few months and hopefully there is more coming down the road of that sort!
If you all believe this class idea is parasitic in nature… why not just hit the class with a ‘ limited’ class debuff? We have blue mage that is fun but is mostly side content. This could be a form of screw around for fun class that you have to build a party around. I legit would enjoy it even if it was capped.
SE did say they would add more of them did they not? That or rework my concept so that it does not need a mana drain as a optional lol ability.
Good luck finding a group for that unless you're a popular streamer. If you all believe this class idea is parasitic in nature… why not just hit the class with a ‘ limited’ class debuff?
