FFXIV needs an update

Hypothetically speaking, it's not being shut down. Maintenance mode with holiday events and the odd unreal trial here and there. You'd also have to be insane to think the game is good as is.

Could the game be improved? Of course. Plenty of people here have expressed their grievances over the years from what I've seen since joining. But still, do give it some credit.

Also, you would want to put the game in maintenance mode with the current surge of popularity it's been getting?

What it needs is to get rid of the remaining junk code and have the existing coding streamlined and optimized so the devs can actually use the full force of the engine to do what they want to do

You guys need to stop viewing Yoshida as some sort of gilded savior. It's true that he "saved" XIV but it's been 8 years. You can say "astrologian sucks revert it" or "housing should fc's only". Hell if you guys love this game so much then where are the viera/hrothgar hats? Where are the egi glamours? Why did you cut back on dungeons? Why are the jobs so streamlined? Grow a backbone and ask.

Yea. For 2 years it isn't that long. Plenty of stuff to do. And if you get bored/burnt out you can always play another game. People still play FFXI to this very day.

No I'm not going to elaborate just make everything better. better graphics more inventory less loading times faster internet. Yeah also Make the whole internet faster too.

Budget??? Manpower?
Deliberate design choices??

That... was the point I was trying to make though... People are playing right now, if you put the game in maintenance mode they will stop in droves, and I don't see how that's good for anyone. Pretty sure FFXIV is SE's cash cow, not FFXI.

You are being extremely vague.

What is wrong with the engine? What is wrong with the servers? What is wrong with basic combat? What is wrong with raid design?

Housing has nothing to do with the engine but the fact that you have people next door means it requires a separate ward server for a certain amount of houses. To instance the housing, your house needs to be on its own, which is where apartments and rooms come in.

Redoing the game for additional sliders doesn't seem reasonable and loading screens are a design decision because 1.0 chose not to use them and it was a disaster. The loading screens don't really exist if you use an SSD.

I've seen what they can do. Stormblood comes to mind. It was a great compromise between having depth and streamlining some abilities. "Hey here's some mana," or "I've got your emnity handled". There's also the part where they made Paladin absolutely gorgeous to play.

But now that I'm typing this all out I realize something. The devs are only partial for the blame. It's the community. The ones who afk in Limsa, the ones who begged for a simple job, the ones who can't handle another resource other than their MP or damage, the ones who can't handle rng in an rng based job.

Non of what you mention there seems even remotely important enough (to me) to warrant shutting the game down.

Viera/Hrothgar hats and egi-glamours are rather small cosmetic things - they dont concern me personally, but I'd wager that even someone who plays on of those races or a summoner main would be happy with the trade off here.

They cut back on dungeons because they wanted to try different types of content - seeing how a lot of people complain about dungeons being boring (while we have those like you at the same time who complain about there being less of them... seriously, no matter how much time they invest in this game, someone will not be pleased...). In Shadowbringers they cut back on dungeons and we got Bozja instead - and I'll be the first person to voice dislike over this content. I really, really dont like it. At the same time I know that a lot of people enjoy it - so it seems quite far to me.

The jobs are streamlined to make balancing them easier - and probably because people asked that their job gets certain skills that other, similar jobs already had. This is a design choice, not something that more time would fix.

For some of your questions the answer isnt "because the code sucks" (though thats true for some issues), so time to fix that wouldnt solve the issues you have. Some are simply design choices that you can like or dislike - personally, I certainly dont like all of them. But I realise that I dont have to - and that some of the stuff I dislike, someone else likes and vice versa.
I can love this game, even if I see the flaws - it just simply doesnt bother me that much that my Viera alt cant wear (most) hats or that there isnt a Ramuh-egi-glamour. Being bothered by those things honestly seems like quite a luxury problem to me.
