I've never touched WoW, so maybe I'm missing something as to how they handle their combo pricing, but the above statement hit me a bit weird. In my mind, I'm assuming both games would keep their current pricing (I believe both are around $12/$13 for standard), and then they would offer a combo deal for like...$18 or something. Why would you feel the need to pay for the higher combo price when you have absolutely no interest in one of the games?

Again, maybe WoW does it totally different and that's the angle you're working with, but not sure :X

It's not bundled pricing - when you pay your sub, you're paying for access to both WoW Classic and Retail WoW. Full stop, you just pay $15/mo. So essentially regardless of whether you want to or not, you're paying for WoW Classic AND Retail. Which is what wishing we had a shared sub like WoW Retail/Classic would entail - whether you want to or not, you're paying for both FFXI and FFXIV if you went that route.

Ahhh, yeah, I can see that not going over too well with XI/XIV. I'm down for some combo deal, but a single price like that doesn't seem like it would make sense at this s time. They are vastly different games, and while XI has nowhere near the amount of subs as XIV, it seems to be holding steady all by itself.

Back in 2012 it was the most profitable game ever made by Square Enix. I don't know if FF14 has surpassed that but I would imagine so? But that it still makes profit, that's a certain given the low running cost and still a good active community.

This is just a guesstamate from the FFXI AH website, which for those who isn't a FF11 veteran is the biggest resource website that has AH history and other features.
Minimum FFXI income: $171,941.00/month ($2,063,292.00/year) from 6380 accounts

This doesn't include any extra services you have on your account (like Mog Wardrobe = extra inventory space)

It is less expensive (and more profitable) for SE to come out with another in its series of mobile games, as that division made 33+ billion Yen last quarter. All of the MMOs combined made less than 12 billion Yen last quarter.

Classic and retail WoW are, basically, the same game, with a launcher that works well with both, and an accounting/subscription service that was never separate.

FF11 and FF14 are not the same game, and subscriptions are not provided by the same service.

Moving from Playonline to the FFXIV launcher (and the different account managers) would be a massive and disruptive undertaking with unknown reward.

Of course it would but I think they respect the diehard people who still plays it and join the game. Especially when 20 year anniversary is just around the corner.

Been a while, would love to log in and see how far I would get now with my PUP/BLU but doubt even Kujata exists anymore, probably got merged with Midg or Leviathan.

So... a fun thought to think if they did do it.
Many years ago at this point but yes.

I don't know how WoW even entered this conversation. They don't have combo pricing. In WoW, you subscribe to their game, and the subscription gives you access to the Classic versions of the game as well as Shadowlands. There is no "combo pricing." FFXIV doesn't have the equivalent of a "Classic" server, so the paradigm doesn't even apply. It would be nice to have a "Square MMO Pass" that gives access to all Square Enix MMOs. I personally wouldn't get it, but I could see how it would appeal to some players.
