They have said they will never bundle 14 and 11 together again because 14 is so big it feels like 11 is being bundled with FF14, not that they're being bundled together.
They said this devalues FF11 and gives the impression that it's unable to stand on its own.

So for better or worse OP, we can expect they will never make a joint subscription like you're requesting.

In terms of actual content I think FFXI actually dwarfs FFXIV. However FFXIV had better presentation to the mainstream gaming audience after its 2.0 launch that made it's playstyle more similar to other MMOs. Then again FFXI could just feel like it has more content because all the content isn't completed in a few hours so players spend more time actively doing things to complete them.

Id love it. Used to play it on Xbox 360 yrs ago before they decommissioned that version. I was super casual though mostly fished up moat carp and leveled alts bit I enjoyed it.

It would be super cool if they did do it for the 20th anniversary. Would make me very happy.

what I would LOVE to see happen for the 20th anniversary next year is to have both producers come on and make a big announcment that FFXI is moving away from Playonline and will be standalone as well as being included like WOW classic is in the WOW sub like some have suggested. I could also see it being an add-on for FFXIV where you pay $5 more per month and get access to FFXI and XIV (how they handle extra FFXI characters I dunno-could also be flipped for XIV subscription as well where you pay for FFXI aand add $5 to sub to XIV). Would this get players to try out both? Yes-I would pickup my old main again from time to time and I imagine others would as well. I would LOVE to see it come out remastered on console but TBH I dunno how it could happen with all the manpower needed and more importantly, code migration for the engine from a 20 yr-old codebase.

They are totally different games - not like WoW Retail and WoW Classic. I have zero interest in FFXI and little desire for mu subscription to include access to that thanks very much.

That's fair. Not everyone has to have interest in playing FFXI. However, based off your 2nd comment I don't really see the harm in it being included free in a subscription. You may not want to play it all, but some others would. If it was included its not like you would be forced to play it.

If they were to emulate the WoW structure, would there be an increase to the base pricing? I can't imagine a good portion of XIV's playerbase wants to play XI, so if this came with a price increase, you're going to have unhappy players on your hands. If there is no price increase, then they are essentially throwing out extra money that they're currently making off of XI as a standalone.

The WoW version doesn't increase your subscription at all. Which would be nice. However, if money is a concern SE could also make an *optional* subscription that includes both for a few dollars more a month. I bet more people would be willing to play FFXI if that was an option. So in regards to money the increase in people choosing that optional sub would most likely even out or surpass the money they make on only FFXI subs based on the current player base there.

Someone already mentioned the Hermes' Shoes, but you also saved $5.95/month for the promotional period if you had subscriptions to both XI and XIV.

Unfortunately I can't really see them doing it again though, it's just not in their interest. They know all too well that if someone wants to play both XI and XIV they will pay for both.

XI is also drastically smaller that what it once was, so it seems reasonable to assume they've scaled the hardware back as well. They're not likely to want to scale that back up again for an MMO that they don't really develop for (they keep it running, but that's pretty much it).
