Enjoy Life you only get one.
the boke and tsukkomi thing is a staple for japanese media, sadly
what I find the worst about the pairing is that he berates lyse for whatever she said - and proceeds to say the same thing again with different words and gets praised for it while she's painted as an idiot
Well, he seemed to do that too with her sister as well back before the Calamity, but Yda at least had the mind to give as good as she got and snapped back at him for it.
I guess Lyse tried a little too hard pretending to be her by acting too empty headed and thus her big reveal kind of seemed a little cheap as a result. I still liked both of them though, they were the first npcs in the game I ever encountered when I first begun my journey in FFXIV back in 1.0 in 2011.
People that buy other people and put them in brothels against their will don't get sympathy points because they decided to become freedom fighters later.Correct me if i’m wrong but that npc did that in his past right? As in wasn’t currently partaking in any of that anymore? He was currently a warrior fighting for the domans? He acknowledged he was in the wrong, but he at least moved on from that and became a soldier if i’m not mistaken. Yotsuyu’s whole arc is about how she too, could’ve moved on despite her past, however she instead chose to torment people and torture them constantly. Both of them did horrible things in their past but only one of them was actively working to repent for their sins.
Yotsuyu was completely off the deep end but he was among the few people she would've been absolutely right to hate.
Urianger, the traitor (Can we have Moenbryda back please and have Urianger killed?)
Lolorito
Alphinaud, the clueless kid (Let me build a private army, what could possibly go wrong with me as a strong leader)
Nero, the "I'm the good guy now".
The whole scions in SHB.
Again, you have to look at it in the context of the game. I mean i don’t think anyone’s saying she doesn’t have the right to hate him but that isn’t the issue here. The whole thing is that he actively tried to repent for his sins by risking his life and becoming a soldier. He didn’t let his past define who he was. She did. She had multiple chances to turn over a new leaf and become a better person. She instead chose the opposite of this man, and chose to continue being a tyrant. Besides isn’t this the game about not letting your past define you and praising people actively moving forward towards a brighter future?![]()
But Lyse is an idiot though.
He didn't let his past define who he was because he wasn't the one sold to a brothel and became the local catatonic fave of the patrons, he was the owner. What did he move on from? Buying women and selling their bodies in the brothel? Is that worthy of applause or praise? Maybe he should try apologizing to his victims (because that's what they are) rather than leaving your post and hightailing it out of there when one rounds the corner who's been elevated to a position where she can actually hit back?Again, you have to look at it in the context of the game. I agree that at that point there was not much point in Hien punishing him, and in-world it's probably realistic, but that wishy-washy "I won't say what he did was good, but I won't say it's bad either. In fact, I'll not say anything!" was pretty lame and actually highlights what Yotusyu's whole issue with Doman society was. Like he can't even say what the dude did at the time was bad? Weak.
All of them were pretty terrible towards each other by the sound of it.
He knew what he did was wrong. My point is he didn’t continue to partake in it. It was a profitable occupation clearly based on the things we see in Doma, but he left it to pursue something far more riskier and would help people in the end. I mean she was a literal psychopathic war tyrant. I’d hightail it out of my post too if i knew she was near. She had no remorse for anything lol. It’s not about “being in a position where she can hit back.” She was literally torturing people for years on end which is hypocritical on her part really. She was given that treatment many years ago, but instead of trying to work to make sure that doesn’t happen to other people, she instead tries to make people’s lives worse. He should apologize to his victims yet if he would’ve apologized to her she most likely would’ve not cared at all and would’ve killed him or tortured him on the spot… Same goes for any of the others. Hien’s stance is understandable, what is he supposed to say? He isn’t the victim in the situation. But it’s also not his place to comment on it at all seeing as he wasn’t around for awhile.Again, look at Uldah with its slavery. Limsa with its mass murder of kobolds etc. None of these places are good and have their problems but i still see people praise the city leaders lol.He didn't let his past define who he was because he wasn't the one sold to a brothel and became the local catatonic fave of the patrons, he was the owner. I'm not praising the other leaders for that and I don't think Hien as a character has to go straight in the trash for it either, but the fact that he can't even just say what the dude did at the time was pretty messed up and left it at for the moment and instead compliments him on his usual courage was pretty lame IMO and I can see how it might sour him to other people. He knew what he did was wrong. I don't think Yotsuyu was in the right either, she was a terrible person by the time we met her, it's just that moving on from being a sex trafficker and brothel owner isn't quite the same accomplishment as it would've been for her had she actually turned the other cheek. And if I'm not mistaken that's exactly how and where she met Zenos so they really played themselves there and paid for it dearly.
