I'm sorry, OP, I really can't agree. I've loved the Final Fantasy music since I started playing the games nearly twenty years ago. Nobuo Uematsu is a God and Soken is fast approaching Deityhood.

'Answers' still gives me goosebumps even now. And the music for Shadowbringers is just sublime. I love the way the different themes and tones and emotions are given space, not to mention the different music genres. But I'm no trained musician, I just know what I like, and I especially like the way Soken's music fits with the moment.

I did listen to Wish You Were Here a lot whilst playing Shadowbringers too: sometimes that just fit my mood when I was feeling reflective

Fun fact: even the arranger for FFXIV 1.0 (one Tsutomu Narita) went off and achieved apotheosis after taking over composing the soundtrack for Granblue Fantasy. Just look up "Zero" or "The Ultimate".

Basic f[kupo]ing research would tell you that this game's soundtrack is not only award-winning, but launched multiple modern VGM legends. I suspect OP is just jealous that they can't slide between seven different genres in one track like a real boss.

I 100% disagree. Soken is amazing. The music is amazing in the game. Maybe try googling.
    And the line of
Not saying "hire me" or anything, but yeah, I could do far better xD
Really? Could you create the music for this game while battling cancer?
Soken is a treasure. The music is amazing, and you might want to clear the wool from your ears?
Also, ARR was thrown together in 18 months. And had new soundtracks made for it from scratch.

FFXIV music is not perfect, but it is very very good. It has improved over time, and the early tracks have multiple composers, so can you say that you're better than all of them?

The only thing FFXIV music really lacks, in my honest opinion, is that Naoshi Mizuta style overworld music. If they could pull him in to design some music too, then I'd probably jizz in my pants. I mean, he did compose some tracks in 1.0/2.0, but hasn't done anything in contemporary FFXIV. He's responsible for the, "Maelstrom Command" track. As well as, "Reign of Pain" - (just reused FFXI music from A Shantotto Ascension), as well as, "Gluppity-schlopp." (the theme for the 789th Kobold area).

Other works of his from FFXI have been placed into FFXIV, such as the Reisenjima theme called Iroha in FFXIV, plays in a Stormblood area. His best work is already on display in early Square Titles and FFXI, and I'd love to see more of it alongside Soken's stuff.

Most recently the composition by Naoshi Mizuta that brings or nearly brings a tear to my eye every time is, "Wail of the Void" from FFXI, composed for its Rhapsodies of Vana'diel final boss, Cloud of Darkness. I could list many more, but I must confess the older they are, the more they are biased by adolescent nostalgia.

As for Soken's compositions... my favorites from FFXIV are Wayward Daughter, Return to Oblivion, Kholuisa Daytime post Vauthry theme, To Fire and Sword, Triumph, Revenge Twofold, and Fiend. I could go on listing them until I ran out of post length and had to edit, but I'm not going to do that.

By the by, this is much more a thread for General Discussion, so if you've got anymore ideas like this, put them there. While it does give us lore enthusiasts something to look over in the lore thread while we sit on supposition, speculation, and deep dive digs until Endwalkers... inappropriate to the topic threads are really hit and miss, and technically against the rules or whatever.

You really compare the music of WoW with FFXIV? WoW doesnt even have a good music in their bossfights xD
And you re telling me, you re somewhat of an expert when it comes to music?

The music of FFXIV may not be perfect at some situations (like that jazz thing from gubal). But some of them are masterpieces (Insatible, Ruby weapon theme, Sands of Amber, Tears in the Rain, etc). I played a lot games and MMORPGs and the music of FFXIV is superior compared with other games/MMORPGs.

I totally believe, you re not able to provide more variety and quality of music like Soken did with FFXIV. You think you could do better? Well, have fun creating more than 500 tracks.

Okay, let me clarify here a bit, because I'm guessing some people here take it as some sort of personal grievance. I understand that playing an MMO is to some degree a lifestyle choice, and I didn't mean to question a validity of your choice here, take it as you will - I play this game too, keep your pants on people.

Issue I'm having is not with the music itself - it's with the arrangement. And I'm sorry, but truly AWFUL synthetic, cheap and absolutely atrocious arrangement, using soundbanks from some KAWAI K4 (was pretty popular back in the 90s), all cropped and compressed to smithereens. Perhaps I didn't make this clear in the OP and I apologize, I should have said an Arranger, not a Composer, but not only that, but employing an actual ensemble to capture all this ambience (and yes, they earn enough money to do it thrice over, as far as the budgetary concerns go). FF14 would sound absolutely epic (and admittedly some tracks "nearly" do) - if arranged for an actual ensemble, instead of some cheap MIDI soundbank from last century!

And lastly, I gave my education background as to put my opinion in certain perspective (biased), not to elevate myself in any way. If you somehow think otherwise, that's on you.

When your closing statement is to suggest that you could do better, while continuously deriding the labors of the team (you could do better work when you were ten-years-old), then people are naturally going to assume you're using your education and perspective as a tool for elevation--that's just the tone you're giving off. It's very haughty, even if that wasn't your apparent intention.

But I stand by what was suggested earlier: put up or shut up. Let us listen to your work and compare for ourselves. And maybe try and get this moved to the general discussion forums. This doesn't really have anything to do with lore, admittedly.

Or in short: you have no idea. I wonder if we re playing the same game.

Does this sound like a cheap MIDI or KAWAI K4 for you? If so, you should go to a doctor. There is something wrong with your ears.

1:40-1:55 xD I think my ears are just fine, thank you kind sir! Like, the actual music is great.

Although as far as the arrangement goes, compared of first 25 seconds of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-O8CnCLfAc - god, can you not hear the actual thing? I really miss it in FF14. It's actually quite frustrating, knowing all this work and potential "un-explored". The terrible synthetic soundbanks just do this music such an injustice..

Impetuous fool, I think your ears are broken, especially if they're cherry picking a 15 second portion of an arrangement almost two minutes in, where a lot is going on in a very upbeat battle track that has to stand out over combat sound effects, normally.

It's fine to miss music that you have nostalgia for, but unless you're Neal Acree, Jeremy Soule, or Russell Brower then it sure as heck isn't your work. Put up or shut up.

    Try these:

    Wayward Daughter

    Mortal Instants

    Sunrise

    Rise

Yes, some are synth heavy. But you know what? You basically said that anything with a synth in it is bad. Which proves you are an insipid individual.

For music I hope they add, I do really hope they bring Naoshi Mizuta on board for more tracks, if possible. Hell, I'd settle for them just ripping more of his tracks from FFXI.
