You shouldn't go into random group content expecting top level play, but you also shouldn't go into group content expecting everyone else to carry you while you just relax and auto attack while watching a video on your other monitor or something.
Precisely, but in the event you do have to afk for a few moments in a raid (it does happen) you need to say something and try to make it as quickly as possible. If you need to go, literally exit the game so your group can replace you. These things take half a second, and even if immediately frustrating to other players, its better than staying put doing nothing.

To be fair the Dark Apocalypse raids are something else.

There are mechanics in there that mimic NieR and you don't see them anywhere else in the game. Red Girl especially can mess with people since the wall mechanics are not very clear and Her Inflorescence has that mechanic where she hits you with the Square Enix Headquarters and the camera angle makes it very hard to judge where the building actually is. And then there are the red bubbles everywhere.

People who do the raids a lot can learn but ones who don't may always have trouble. I will die being bad at Red Girl, personally. I know how that boss works on paper but will never be able to pull it off.

I completely feel the pain of Red Girl, I swear she has it in for me.

I've taken a couple of FC mates through these raids and talked them through on Discord. They don't play as much as I do, but they eventually get comfortable with it. We accept that bad things will happen, but I recognize and celebrate when things go right and move from there. I will even make mistakes sometimes because I really can't talk and play at the same time.

Red Girl is really nothing new if you break it down. Child's Play comes up several times during the game. Recreate Meteor is from Labyrinth and that concept gets repurposed every so often. White vs. Black is very simple and it all follows the same progression as other mechanics. The most frequently seen mech in all the game is colored areas showing up on the ground, which is generally bad for your health.

When in doubt, you just follow people around. Even things like Recreate structure and mixed signals are just a matter of watching where people are going.

If DPS suffers a little because you need time to figure out where you need to go, it's not the end of the world.

I never said it's for the purpose of making the run be flawless. It's for the purpose of having some people you know with you and share the load, just that does make it less painful, at least for me. And personally, I have very competent friends. It does make a difference to add some more good players even if there happens to be a very sucky alliance. Big scale content is almost always like this, a few carry the rest, Bozja makes it even more obvious. But I also queue alone frequently, not like a potential bad run will ruin my day.

There is no easy remedy to change people's mindset when it comes to how they play or how much they care about being a team player, so I'll continue advicing to play with friends, sharing the load is better, it's also more fun. If someone doesn't have friends, luckily for them this is a MMO, they can make some. I'm not the kind of person that socializes much but I still met a lot of people organically just as I went about my business, mostly through raiding.

Where I get tripped up and see others get tripped up is placing AoEs near the walls and getting on opposite side of the walls from the lasers. It doesn't help that the Automata art style with the gray flickering can actually head fake you into wondering if you have black or white whatever to deal with (you do figure this out but first seeing it produces some ??? moments).

I see people struggle with Red Girl more than Diablo Armament which is kinda funny.

Diablo is so much worse, especially when you have a RDM doing limit 3 during overload. Gate is where my DPS slows for a bit and I still mess up sometimes

I've always been confused as to why someone would pay monthly for a game they are not actively playing. I've seen a lot of bots in leveling content too. Its possible that the players you are running into are also bots. If you notice any suspicious movements from said players, I'd think about sending an in game report.
