FF14 has an amazing community!

So far, my experience with the FFXVI community has been mostly positive. I occasionally see what looks like people using /say to cyber sex in the capital cities, which is just plain creepy. Especially with some of the races looking like little children. But global chat isn't filled with the toxic spam a lot of MMOs end up with. I'm looking at you, Barrens chat. There aren't constant blind party/guild/free company invites constantly spamming me, which is a good thing. I haven't seen any gold seller bot spam, which is again a good thing. And in the few dungeons I've ran so far people have either been quietly professional or friendly and helpful. The forums don't appear (so far) to be a cesspit of toxicity either. Yeah, there's bad eggs. There will always be bad eggs. But the community as a whole doesn't appear to be dominated by them, unlike some MMOs I've played.

Agreed. I'd further encourage people to continue discussing it freely whether it upsets some people here, or not.

I dislike ascribing positives to a nebulous community as it attempts to absolve them of responsibility for the negatives. Plus nobody signed up to be in a club, they signed up for a game so there is no "community" really.

... Like.. it's OK to be wary but this reaction to EVERY SINGLE POSITIVE EXPERIENCE is just tired and apparently for the majority of vocal people coming here UNTRUE. Let people find their own experience and say some nice things.

these posts are in almost every thread and whenever someone disagrees with the circlejerk of positivity, they get insulted and get called toxic by actual toxic people
I don't know if realize that they're almost the very same thing they seemingly hate with a passion, but it's downright odd how WoW is brought up for no reason in unrelated threads only to shit on it while patting "us" on the back for being so nice

I dislike ascribing negatives to a nebulous community since I havent met them all yet. I am fully aware that people are people, and a majority of the people I have met are on the positive side. Interactions I have are positive. the fact that there are negative people, does also not mean that others are here to "absolve" them in any way. I would argue that a majority would have zero problems in seeing the negative people removed from the game and as such, have no problems reporting those people in the hopes that they are. that is not absolution. we did not sign up to be in a club, no, but we all did sign up to follow the same rules, much like a society, which does in fact, make us, even you, part of a "community"

until such a time when I have met over 50% of the people playing, I will have to continue to go off my personal experience, which is one of positive interactions, as opposed to the hard factual data of what kind of personality make up the majority.

I can't (and shouldn't) STOP you, no.

But I can sure notice that people NEED to post their problem encounters every single time someone posts something positive and harp on the experience like it's some sort of trap.

Did I say that? Did my comment about the same people being negative all the time mean that negative comments about WOW were perfectly fine? Does not addressing every single issue with every single response mean I endorse everything that I don't specifically cite? .. check your strawman because he's pretty beat up.

And those people are extremists of the opposite kind, also present everywhere in every game and I acknowledge they were the same people who called for the "wow refugees" to not come here because they'd ruin everything, which is quite obviously not true as well.

Yeah.. we have fanboys on both sides and they make ridiculous arguments. This isn't a reason to dump on every person who starts a "I have been having a great experience so far and people seem nicer here" thread. People will find out for themselves and make their own judgements on what the community is to them without soggy towel "people are so fake" stories needing to be repeated on every thread.

Unfortunately, no. There's always that same handful that jump in every forum. Don't sweat it. The community's overall good reputation stands on its own regardless and that's still something we should be proud of since it is so rare with gamers these days.

If we are using society as an example of community, then a large amount of the community is failing to uphold their end of social contracts.
