People make such disingenuous comparisons about all game communities, waxing on about their greatness for no apparent reason or gain. People are just slightly more into it in FFXIV for some reason, as you obviously know. The game's community isn't actually anything special. It has all the good and bad of any major fandom - there just so happens to be a very vocal portion of players who seek to portray it as much better than it actually is. In some cases, it's likely due to being lucky enough to not be exposed to the worst elements that the game brings to the table. In other cases, however, I rather suspect that a blind eye is deliberately being turned.

Yes, it is indeed an amazing community and extremely special and rare. The only other community similar is the Lotro community. We have our sour grapes just like everyone else, but it's the community that really sets the game apart from other mmo's.I've been playing for about a month now and I have to say that I've really enjoyed being around the community! Comparing all of the community aspects to World of Warcraft and I can easily say that the experience is much nicer! I have been through several dungeons/raids and have not seen one rude player and the only time I see the vote kick option being used is to kick AFK players. Even the forums are pretty amazing and helpful when needed and I really do like it! Does anyone else have similar thoughts on the community, or would it just be me being new

This game's communitys is a reflection of its developers and it shows. Also welcome to the game OP.
I would say that overall the community is normal . We have more of a regular player base .
People just going about their business in a virtual world that hasn't been designed to:
Hold you for as long as possible with awful game systems then make you lag behind if you take time off (WoW)
Or allow you to buy gear max level BiS with easy to acquire tokens or from the loot crate crate you get on each new Galactic Command level up after max level (Swtor) you can get by zerging dungeons/group content endlessly making the experience for new people awful because veteran players are impatient and want that loot asap because the Command system is a grind factory.
Here we have a good chunk of players that are relaxed and peaceful with a game that respects its communities time , hasn't desperately milked extremely bored people senseless with over priced appearance changes, or story boost in its cash shop , doesn't make you fall behind if you take breaks , and doesn't make you wear yourself out trying to get gear upgrades . If anyone here burns themselves out its because the individual chose to spend that much time here without thinking of their well being.
If at any point , which it wont , the developers choose to turn this into a "fall behind at your peril" type of MMO then the community would become like all the others that are considered hostile.

I agree with this last paragraph of your post. I would dive deeper when a developer starts compartmentalizing people and putting them into groups ie. Raiders and casuals instead of treating all players as players no one groups deserves to be catered to over another. Then this game will go down the road many other MMOs have gone.
Enjoy Life you only get one.
it's funny reading this with exactly that kind of post below![]()
I've played a lot of toxic games in the past, but FFXIV is the only game where I've genuinely feared for my safety. I may have gotten insulted occasionally in LoL, but I was never subjected to prolonged stalking or any of the other freakish behavior that frequently comes out of the underbelly of this game.
I've never encountered more unstable people in my life; The twitter community in particular is WILD. There was a widely circulated tweet the other day where someone was requesting the person behind the FFXIV official twitter lose their job, all because they made a 'healers adjust' joke. People constantly go out of their way to try to cause genuine harm to other peoples livelihoods; It's not uncommon for warped people to get jealous about someone else getting traction on FFXIV twitter (particularly artists). I once watched someone start a bunch of rumors about an artist they didn't even know in an attempt to get them deplatformed, simply because they were jealous that the artist was frequently getting free art of their character from other artists. A bunch of other FFXIV people jumped on board immediately without even reading into the situation, despite this person plainly stating their intentions in a rant they'd gone on only a few days before which remained publicly visible.
It's a good community because there is not much to say or speak in game, also the main content its extremely easy take a look for example at some level 50-60 trails ;
-A cutscene its longer than the actually fight.
-One of the best attacks executed by a Knight and his sword can deal 0 damage to the whole party.
The game its designed to don't bother or interact with other people that much, also the PVP system its so friendly that anyone can enjoy it.
Um, have you not seen the housing in this game? Where you need to sit at a placard for hours on end tapping a placard inI would say that overall the community is normal . We have more of a regular player base .

hopes you get it while versing dozens of other players? Really respectful of players time…not to mention a house requires you to stay subbed since if you don’t enter it after 45 days you lose it. As for a grind fest,Eureka/Bozja….Also that dungeons thing you mentioned literally is in the game. Since relics require dungeon runs, people want them asap and speedrun dungeons. I dont really see how this is is supposed to be an "other mmos" thing when its literally a thing in 14.
