It was still the worst version of MNK because of Riddle of Fire slowing down the GCD. NOTHING will make that good, NOTHING.You're forgetting SB had the best version of monk by far. The TK monk. IT wasn't MY fav but tons of streamers loved it and so did a few players in the game. Monk compared to everything else has always been in a shit can, but SB monk was one of the better ones. Same with Ninja and Astro. They were the best compared to NOW. Give or take some things.
I'm just going by what I heard from streamers and videos. Mr. Happy quitting monk in SB2 says it all to me. He main monk in SB. Me saying it was the best it was is not saying it was perfect. SB monk still had more highs then lows compared to monk in all the other expacs. But that's my opinion and a few streamers opinion. It wasn't PERFECT. But it was better. I LOVED TP being gone.
Referring back to the original title of this thread: It seems that not a day goes by without another Youtube streamer sensationally announcing they are moving to ffxiv.
I've played various mmo's during the years, but have never experienced this type of influx mid-expansion. We all know the mix of reasons for this, nevertheless it is still amazing to witness the growth.
The question now is how long will this last? When WoW gets it's act together once more (and I've no doubt it will, there's too much money at stake for Activision Blizzard), will we just see a mass reversal exodus?
Hoping of course that many new players will be hooked by the story and stay with the game in the longer term. We'll see.

If Blizzard changes its attitude towards the players and its idea of what a p2p MMO should be? There are so many "WoW refugees" who are looking for almost ANY excuse to go back to the game they loved. Zepla and Asmongold both admitted that it's not that they're turning away from WoW forever, they just cannot stand playing (in asmongolds case, as much) anymore. Once the game is "fun" again people will return to what was comfortable and what they have invested years and years into. They may split time between both games.. but as someone who kept trying to go back to the older games I used to play that ended up losing vision.. I'm sure if they manage to salvage their name and product, people will return.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
If you follow the news at all, this company is already in damage control. When the president of the company J. Allen Brack 'steps down', that's usually a sign that something's amiss, PR move or not. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...=technology-vpThe question now is how long will this last? Those are the only two notables that I've read over the last week that have lost their jobs, I have no doubt there's more and potentially more to come. Back before the advent of the internet, some of these topics could be swept under the rug, but word of mouth now, it'll rock any company.
This company should survive, but unless they start to release quality content(I don't play the game, going off of what I've read over the years) and now you mix in the allegations... The perfect storm would be about as appropriate as it comes regarding this company at this point.
I don't think they will get their act together.
There has been money at stake for years and they've been trying to cover it up and ignore it the whole time. WoD was when the game really started to crumble and lost half its playerbase. Since then they simply hid their sub numbers, ignored their playerbase, pushed their WoW token and monetization tactics harder and abuse in the workplace continued. Their initial response to the court case was to blame both the state and their players, only changing their tune when it backfired, which isn't sincere at all. They have another court case on their hands now from their investors, since they hid the 2 year investigation from them to prevent losing money.
They just don't have a Yoshida in Acti-Blizzard. There's no one capable of doing a huge turn around like that. Even worse, WoW's reputation has fallen lower than even FF14 1.0.
There are many who are just migrating from WoW to other games now, but also a significant number of old WoW players who left years ago and would never touch the product ever again, revamp or not. Legion was actually their last serious chance to salvage the game and they failed to take it. The company definitely won't die, but the damage is beyond repair.
I left played wow pretty solid from Vanilla - Legion, then played on and off came back to BFA for like a month, then shadowlands when it first dropped and I think that was the final straw for me, even without all the added drama, it does nothing for me anymore, and I agree I do not think the have the people there to make the spark come back. I am making ffxiv my main game now with absolutely no regrets.I don't think they will get their act together.

Most people prefer HW DRK over StB DRK, but ShB DRK is even less popular than either as far as I can tell.
People talked about salvaging StB DRK, they talk about starting over with ShB DRK.
Almost same as you except I started during Burning Crusade.I left played wow pretty solid from Vanilla - Legion, then played on and off came back to BFA for like a month, then shadowlands when it first dropped and I think that was the final straw for me, even without all the added drama, it does nothing for me anymore, and I agree I do not think the have the people there to make the spark come back. In Shadowlands, I wasted my money by paying 3 months to test it. I even went as far as rerolling a new class (went from Rogue to DH since Legion, then Warrior). Just to have a fresh way to play, first month focused mostly on leveling and unlocking cosmetics/improving my character.
As soon as I hit Shadowlands I knew I wouldn't last for long. It was the same old recycled trash they have given us since ages, World Quests are Daily quests reskin, focus only on dungeons/raids and now Mythic + (copied from the failed Diablo 3). Like... who thought adding ARPG designs to an aging MMORPG would be a good idea ? Especially from a failed ARPG no less.
I don't believe Blizzard has the capacity, manpower or even will to change their game for the better. Now it's only going to be pressed hard for the last few bucks it can give with the ultra hardcore Blizzard fans. Not even mentioning the awful storytelling, ruined characters, and fake virtue signals from Blizzard while they do nasty stuff in the office. I genuinely have no more respect for the company, except for the poor Art Department who has been carrying this game since forever.
Time investment is a factor, but when I switched from Guild Wars 1 to other games, it didn't matter much because at the end of the day if a game is no more fun, there's really no point to play it.
I'm really enjoying my time in FFXIV, there's a lot to do and you don't feel left behind because you pursue activities you enjoy. It's a very chill game with overall a very friendly community. It does remind me a lot of the days when I played Guild Wars 1. Really great times.

HW DRK was still the top the mountain. Managing MP, cooldowns, your DoT (I miss you Scourge...), your enmity combo and DPS combo (I miss having a 2nd combo...), and the absolute joy felt when you pulled it all off. SB DRK was a travesty that spat on all that was DRK, and I'm glad that evil monstrosity is dead. I much prefer ShB, which while not near the glory of HW, is still infinitely better than SB DRK (which made me quit playing DRK). In general I despise SB because it destroyed DRK and MNK, and SCH barely survived launch for me (lack of Energy Drain and the MP costs made it a real struggle).
By the way, I only say SB destroyed MNK because it was basically going from GL3 to no GL stacks in terms of how slow your GCDs became while under Riddle of Fire, and that was supposed to be your BURST window. It'd be like RDM having a burst window where they lose double cast and have to just slowly charge up the spells. That isn't fun, that's pure annoyance.
