I feel like even catbois are way more ripped than your average IRL dude, but I get what you're saying. Catbois also aren't like 6' tall lean meat machines, haha. I definitely appreciate the range of body types this game has to offer! And yeah, FF in general (especially when it comes to male antagonists) has always gotten pretty creative with masculinity. Which is dope and cool.

As a guy into other guys, personally I think the game does a pretty terrible job at reflecting the broadness of masculinity. That we lack the ability to create a tall, classically handsome male character with features similar to Basch, Jecht, Gladio and Snow is practically criminal.

I like Midlander men based on their facial features, though they're rather lacking in the height department. Highlander men have nice physiques, but their faces aren't great and there's the bizarre lack of eyebrows to consider. Raen and Xaela are decent looking, though their hips leave much to be desired and not everybody wants to deal with the clipping and clashing that comes with horns and a tail.

It's a shame that the style of character designs in FFVIIR isn't embraced in FFXIV.

Confused a bit on when you’re talking about range. What range? Honestly male viera was kind of a letdown for many people, because it has absolutely no masculine option at all. A majority of the races are pretty feminine looking, combined with the fact there’s a lot of favoritism towards feminine characters in general, it’s one of 14’s lacking points. Masculinity isn’t represented very well at all, and using past ff games doesn’t really help, because past ff games still have characters like Jecht,Gladio,Auron etc.

I'm a gay guy and I dislike the design direction. Nor is the LGBT community a hivemind. Quite a lot of people were hoping for something different to what we ended up getting.

It's a shame. Every other race forced weird compromises in the name of appealing to broader tastes. Miqo'te have at least one masculine face, for example. Whereas Raen/Xaela can be designed to look very masculine or softer. Yet it's a genuine struggle to create a male Viera with masculine/harder features.

You don't have to be LGBT to like or dislike something. I for one (female, straight) like the more feminine guys, I just think they are cute and eye candy.
The only thing I don't like about male Vieras so far is their bad posture
