If you want to create your own story, that's perfectly fine - but it's gotta be separate from the official main story within the game. After all, what we're discussing here is plot-relevant stuff.
We cannot all be the actual WoL. The MSQ instances, to a degree, even acknowledge this - we head in there with other players (who are shown prominently during the dialogue scenes), and it's made pretty clear that they aren't the WoL (and I am sure that I have appeared as some anonymous shlub in plenty of their cutscenes over the years). Thus, as far as the data displayed on every other console and PC's is concerned, I am not the WoL.

Yes, FFXIV is definitely spinning a yarn which we are forced to take part in, and while we can (if we want) claim a collective little nibble of that tale, it really isn't our story - it's Ardbert's unnamed 'source' alter-ego's story. And that's perfectly fine. Eorzea is a big enough world for other dreams to exist, and while the game may not loftily ordain them as canon, it certainly doesn't rule the majority of them out, either.
