Wait... you did check the source code? And, what did you discover? Did you actually run your cmd to see what ACT is doing on your PC?
Your are absolutely correct. Alas, I'm guilty myself of more often than not to download the precompiled packages rather than building from source unless there's an absolute necessity. In this case you have to inspect the source code and then build the binaries by yourself. The binaries you can download can not be trusted because they can contain some other functionality that is not in the public source code.
And no, this is not a tinfoil hat thing, it happened in the past:

ACT just adding and displaying numbers from a combat log. Its not a tool for FFXIV alone. Its been used for EQ2, FFXIV, Rift, Age of Connan, Aion, Star Wars: TOR and The Secret World.Packet capture uses a library known as Machina created by Ravahn, which is used by the FFXIV Act plugin, and a nodejs wrapper created by Karashiiro in order to read the packets sent by the FFXIV servers to your game when you're playing. This cannot be used to read your credentials, all the libraries used are Open Source and you have the links above if you want to read their code and make sure nothing wrong is done. It requires Teamcraft to be started as admin, in order to be able to get all required permissions to read network from another process.
This log will created by the ACT FFXIV plugin. This plugin will saves the combat log from the incoming network packages on your computer. But can also choose how this log were created. Either using package capture or reading the RAM. Not both.
But neighter ACT nor FFXIV plugin will send data to someone else.
To wrap this up:
1. There is no known case where data were send data to someone else (spying) for several years and MMORPGs
2. There is no evidence that personal data will sent to somewhere else. Running something on administrator rights doesnt proof anything
3. You can check the c sharp code of the FFXIV plugin and ACT yourself
4. Its none of your business, what programs are installed on other player's computers
^ this.
Did you actually checked the code? Both are written in C#. Please tell me where other functionality is uncluded which is not public, because I m not finished through the entire githubs from both programs. In this case you have to inspect the source code and then build the binaries by yourself. The binaries you can download can not be trusted because they can contain some other functionality that is not in the public source code.

From what i ve seen, all libraries include own written code or microsoft functionality.
The links you ve posted are about a eclipse (java developing) plugin. Not ACT. And its from 2017. /shrug
If you re so concerned about security, you should throw your iPhones away. And using Tor-Browsers and VPNs. And stop playing FFXIV, because SE may sell it to other companies. Mabye move to an empty island.

This project is to track releases and issues for the ACT FFXIV Plugin. The source code is not currently public."

I need guidance. How can I become as ignorant as you? Or maybe I am doing something wrong, it is possible, but usually, I would be more concerned about that option if I had more people sharing my opinion. In any case, ignorance is bliss. You just don't know and refuse to know the endless ways of how you can get screwed over.

I did not check the source code because i don't care about this software anymore.
It was an example that there can be a disparity between public source code and binaries.
Cheers
And someone who is playing this game just for a few months is also an expert in security and c sharp development.
I m pretty sure, the hate/fear just comes of having a bad experience with a player who used ACT incorrectly. Otherwise, you have proof, that ACT is sniffing data or something else.
Good.

Hmm, yes, you are actually correct. Indeed the public repository is only for the plugins and localisation but not the program itself."The ACT Parsing Plugin for Final Fantasy XIV

I apologize for the misinformation.
Nevertheless, the project exists for 14 years so i hope you take that in consideration of how trusted it is
Man I know this thread didn't get resurrected from freaking 2014 just for people to start fear mongering over a basic tool. Y'all got too much time on your hands.
And here we are, seven years later. And we still don't have better housing...eh...what was the topic about?
parsers are programs that read combat data that gets generated by the game and compiles it in easier to understand numbers
it is mainly used by extreme, savage and ultimate raiders because that content requires a certain amount of DPS to be hit consistently (in addition to mechanics, of course), which ACT can help with by visualising and logging rotations, casts and whatnot
it's also used by, let's call them casual to midcore players, who use it to see their own performance and if they're improving or not
it can be misused to bully people, but I've personally only seen it once in I don't know how many dungeons, trials and raids and other people's experience may vary there, but I don't think it'd a bad thing if it'd be added
people are gonna be bullies with or without it, as repeatedly shown on the forum, in the game and in the community in general /shrug
