More people would do FATEs if they were worth doing aside from just killing time. They give trash xp, trash amount of gil, trash amount of seals, give no other form of currency or rewards [except for the very rare 'world boss' type], and have no effect on the overworld if you fail or outright ignore them. ShB's shared FATEs concept was good, but it was also a 'do once and done' system.

Maps and hunts are similar ish forms of content, yet far superior because they actually feel rewarding to do

so apparently the only option that doesn't "stress the newbies" is either pressing 1211111111, or do nothing at all.

The XP from FATEs really isn't that bad. You're going to get roughly the same for the time investment as you do by direct queuing for a dungeon the same level (not via roulette). I've finished level grinds via FATEs several times because I didn't want to wait until the next day for roulettes to reset. It only gets frustrating when you've cleared all the available FATEs and you're stuck waiting 1-2 minutes for more to spawn (something I wish SE would fix).

Those "trash" amounts of gil and seals add up when you chain FATEs. So does what you can make by buying items with gemstones earned in the ShB zones and selling them on the MB. I'm frequently going back and doing more FATEs in ShB zones, especially Archaeotania and Formidable.

Could things like Archaotania and Formidable be more frequent? Sure, though if they get too frequent players would stop caring. My understanding of GW2 is that dungeon rewards are trash at high levels compared to the open world events, which is why players choose to do the latter (I've never played the game so I don't know how true it is).

Part of this game's problem is that it does not handle large groups of players at the same location well. Look at the large hunt trains where other players and even the hunt mark will disappear randomly depending on where you are standing. The same thing happens with the major FATEs if enough players are present. It could be that is part of why SE doesn't more or more frequently large scale FATEs.

There's also a limit of 300 players per zone. Imagine players trying to progress through MSQ not being able to enter a zone because there's a very rewarding large scale level cap event in progress. That would be exceedingly frustrating to the player who just wants to progress MSQ and has no interest in the large scale event at that time.

Those things would need to be addressed before more large scale open world events would work here.
