Personaly I say "Bah" to further fragmenting the communities. I like my server to have a mix of everything, NA, JP, EU, Roleplayers, Casual players, Hardcore players...ect.
I'd rather not everyone be huddled into their own little corner where they feel safe and warm.
unfortunately special interest groups dont agree with that, they want to feel special by having something of their own
its why unofficial servers for certain things work real well, you can get everyone together still, but once they designate a server new and official all the special interests will run to it

I worry that if a new server is created for role-playing, the majority of the role-playing community will stay on Balmung with their friends, and there will only be a tiny community on the new server which may eventually die out.
If a new server is made, I won't know what to do honestly. I would want to be where the larger RP community is, but how will I know which to choose?
I can see that splitting everyone up and defeating the purpose of the RP server.

thats not nesisarily a bad thing though
if the community is on an unofficial server, ad its doing well, then why should it need an official server at all?
anyone who really cares will research the server they want to go to if they have those special interests anyway(such as roleplaying, or specific timezones and such)

Except when you don't have it recognized, communities spread around all servers and grow thin, and die out. To avoid that you need people on the same server. You just don't get it, being part of the majority non-RP playerbase, how essential it is to have all RPers on one server for the community to thrive, not to just linger, but thrive. Your arguments don't get too much traction because this ignorance of the topic at hand is evident in each post.
Thank you SO much for this response, Bayohne! You're right, many of us were on pins and needles!
It would have been nice to put this in place now, but I think I can see the reasoning behind waiting. With 2.0 there will be a lot of server restructuring and even more upheaval than we're about to go through. But the idea right now is to consolidate the reduced playerbase to maximize the opportunity for group play. At least with the upcoming merge setup, there is still the opportunity for those in the know to come to Balmung and join the RP community there if they would like to. We just need to get the word out.
In regards to splitting up the community, it's too bad we didn't have a few official server designations right from the start. But we didn't, so now we can only go forward. I believe the least disruptive option would be to take the server that the community and its friends has already designated as the unofficial RP server (Besaid/Balmung) and just make it official. It would keep an already established server community together. However, as it has been stated, that is possibly unfair to some who play there and do not want to be on a RP server (though, it begs the question, if you are so vehemently opposed, why are you there?). So, we may very well see come 2.0 that the official roleplay server will be a brand new world, much like Ragnarok.
If the designated RP server is indeed a new world, we'll all have some decisions to make. For me, I see it being very simple. I came here from FFXI where I carried over my old linkshell. I chose Besaid because it was where the RP community was going, and I knew that being on a server with such a friendly, helpful and mature community would give my linkshell the greatest chance for longevity. And unless I have some major objections from members of my linkshell, the RP server is where we'll be going.
Again, thanks Yoshi-P and Bayohne for bringing us this information. It's a matter that's very important to me. I did not subscribe in January, but when the server merges gave everyone cause for concern and the possibility to finally officially designate a roleplay server presented itself, it was enough to get me to lay down money to make my voice heard.
This is fantastic news.![]()

Ok, so you have 2 choices in the end then
1) Go unofficial only and have everyone who joins attempt to flock to the server, and have a wide variety of players, not only RPists, and no one would get seperated from their friends ever since they wont be forced to move to an official server
2) Go official, everyone who wants to RP goes to the official server, those who do not want to sever ties dont, and then we hear complaints about how the community is now split because you were forced to make a chocie due to having a special interest group.
Either way, you end up with players complaining about 1 thing or another. Either they complain that the server isnt official(which it wont be cuz its unfair to force players onto an official server for a special interest) or you get complaints that people were split up(which is by choice since its your choice to go to an official server so you chose to be split from friends if you do it)
There is no ignorance, its all pretty much fact, people are already complaining about it(go look, seriously, they have) so its a lose lose situation for complainers
but either way, the RP community will survive, the difference is basicaly how you do it
The problem with your posts at this point is no matter what I say you will go out of your way to bash me, and thats not ignorance on my part, but just immaturity on your part. I have been giving ALOT of positive feedback but you apperently just dont care
My XIVPad: http://xivpads.com?2031148
TheVedis, it's difficult to see that positivity when you 1) amusedly call us RPists 2) openly admit that you troll roleplayers in public and 3) go on a tirade like this.
I've tried to defend what's fair for everyone, but with attitudes like this, it's hard not to prefer that SE officially designate Balmung the RP server and leave it up to the haters to transfer if they're not happy. I seriously can't see how an official designation would change your gameplay, other than make it harder for you to openly insult the RP community.

1) I will now and forever call them RPists, sorry, but if you have no sense of humor thats not my fault
2) I only troll RPists who are at my linkshells spot in Uldah or who are in the middle of a damn camp(broken water mostly back in the day)
3) Ive been more then civil, and reasonable, and others bash me cuz i dont agree with their views, then i get called out as being in the wrong? Yeah, sounds like the 13 forums to me.
Dont look at my attitude, go back and seriously take a look at those who respond to anyone who doesnt agree with their views in these type of threads. People do not want discussions, they dont even want answers, they want praise, and I dont give that so im labeled as a forum troll, and the bad guy(i swear im not trolling people most of the time, and when i do, its usualy more in a comedic sense)
As ive stated in my views since the begining almost in this thread
If you want your own server, fine, dont force people into it though, this view is the most universaly fair to EVERYONE. And for posting it, i have instead been bashed by several people who are claiming its not fair they have to be the ones to transfer off due to them wanting something special done for them.
