In fact, I wasn't even thinking about it. Nor have I even played (or watched a playthrough of) The Last of Us 1 or 2, and I will not make an argument about either of them unless I have personally played them and can actually give an objective opinion, or review on the games. For that matter, I have disagreed many times when people have referenced "forced diversity or forced inclusion" - I have a mind of my own. A lot of the time I think it's done just to stir up outrage from one side, and in many cases clicks or views. I do not think games with female leads, are 'forced'.. I am playing a female right now, this is my FFXIV lead.. Anyway, I do not want to get into this sort of argument on the FFXIV forums of all places, this is DEFINITELY not the place for it, so I digress.

When I am referring to creativity (or passion), I meant the sheer wonder of the worlds or lore made. Character's - generally - had more depth, many of the older games depth was actually their writing after all. Games back then were also made to make a profit, yes, but I feel like nowadays making a profit has overtaken the actual 'art' of making a video game in many cases.

Also, FFXIV is one of the only Japanese games I play. I do not have much context on Japanese games. I cannot give a proper opinion on them. If we are still talking about FFXIV in this thread, I could have gone into more detail what I think of it in comparison to other games, but that's it.

I should have been more specific, there are - in fact - many games that are finished through DLCs, for example take a look at the Paradox catalogue. I'm not exactly sure what you are even referring to here with "the updates are free", yes some games have free updates, not every game has free updates.. The Witcher 3 specifically? I am speaking generally (as I outlined several times in my post).

Frankly, I do not know what I waded into in this thread, I guess I shouldn't have posted.

I mean the best story in a video game was a ps2 launch window title. The best stealth game was released in 98. The best fps in 01. The best rpg in 02. The list goes on and on. We long since been in cultural and creative decay in the gaming sphere.

Hmm, time to try to guess these...

No idea on that first one. Way too vague. I don't remember any strong story launch titles on PS2 though, so that's on me, maybe.

Thief for the stealth game, I think?

    Halo: Combat Evolved?

Hoo boy... hmm... hah... hmm... Golden Sun the Lost Age? No? Uhh... how about... .hack?

Once gaming hit the mainstream corporate took over in nearly every company. They went from being companies centered around the game developers to the game developers just being wings of the company.

Transitioning to 3-D and the ever more realistic graphics and audio options also stifled creativity. When you have more constraints you're forced to become more creative and work with what you have. When the sky's the limit, you often forget your wings can only carry you so high.

I enjoyed both of your posts, your response to Chocopuni's irrational post even more so. Please, look me up on Excal sometime. I'll kill a dungeon with you or something.
